Re: ZDNet Reviews SolydXK

Never read the comments on ZDNet... the toxicity of the trolls that roam the comments section there is ridiculous. But it was a nice, if short, review.

Re: Cannot sync data between 2 computers.

Please try:

Code: Select all

sudo ifconfig
edit: there is also a very handy command called inxi which I don't know so well but perhaps you could also give the output of:

Code: Select all

inxi -Nxx

I will add it... even thought I am not really happy to think of it as "solved" as re-installing your distro to possibly fix an icon seems slightly extreme :P

Re: Hopity Hop

It is just shocking (in a good way) to me how stable Solydk is... I have not encountered one thing that didn't install and just work (was shocked when Windows shares on the network was just there and working and I was copying files around like a mad man)... about to do some scanning via a networked ...

Re: Steam icon in system tray

After a brief stint distro hopping I am back on SolydK and this time around the Steam icon in the taskbar is OK... so the initial problem wasn't solved but it isn't a problem any longer :)

Re: Hopity Hop

@404 - If you only have one disk and you want to play with other distros, consider creating 2 or three partitions of about 15 - 20G each and install your plays in these. You end up with a dual/multi-boot machine, you don't disturb your daily driver, and you don't consume much disk. If you run into ...

Re: Hopity Hop

 What a fool I am... gave into the temptation that is the latest Ubuntu release and gave up a fully functional and super stable SolydK install... shouldn't have :? Other ISO at my disposal at that time was LMDE so gave that a whirl... not bad except that I couldn't get Hearthstone via Crossover...

Re: New user looking for opinion on reality of gaming ....

I have been in and out of Windows for some years now because of gaming... as it stands gaming for Linux has never been better and is just getting more awesome by the day. There will most probably always be games made for Windows that just doesn't work or work well enough in Wine. If you run into one...

Sorry for almost derailing the whole fix by looking for an alternative fix rather than fixing the fix that wasn't working. Learnt a number of things from following the thread at least!

Re: Help with Nvidia driver, please

I am very loath to give advice on something I haven't tried myself but I see that there are linux drivers directly from nvidia (http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html) which you might give a go. I used to always install drivers from AMD that way but since I am on nvidia now I was lucky enough that D...

Re: Installing Clementine 1.2 in SolydK

Well being an idiot and never really understanding how things work I tried several other debs from https://code.google.com/p/clementine-player/downloads/list and got all manner of random unmet dependencies... until I changed my tactics and found the deb of liblastfm0 for wheezy and installed that fi...

(Solved) Installing Clementine 1.2 in SolydK

So I have never really understood everything surrounding packaging and versions and libraries etc. so perhaps someone can help me understand a bit more. I just saw that Clementine 1.2 dropped a few days ago. Now it isn't in any of the Debian repo's as yet but there are several deb's available. I dec...

Re: Hopity Hop

The name and signature comes from another Linux forum I frequent :) I was just about to make a jump to LMDE as it seemed to me to be the same as SolydXK but with Cinnamon... so glad I saw it doesn't update monthly like Solyd does, a definite deal breaker for me so I will go home later today and hug ...

Hopity Hop

So... my condition to never be happy with what ever operating system I use has brought me to SolydK currently, and I have to say I am finding it very good (I had a look at SolydX but something about the Oxygen theme and XFCE put me off :P ). There are a lot of little touches that I really appreciate...
