Re: SolydXK 201902 released

Is it really as intended to have vi(m) not installed by default (on SolydK)? ;)

Code: Select all

root@bashost:/etc/apt #>>> vi sources.list
-su: vi: opdracht niet gevonden
(I have been absent from the forum for quite some time, sorry for not being involved in testing the latest release..)

Re: How to install skype relaese 8.27.0.85

I typically install Skype like this: sudo -i apt-get -y install apt-transport-https echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://repo.skype.com/deb stable main" >> /etc/apt/sources.list curl https://repo.skype.com/data/SKYPE-GPG-KEY | sudo apt-key add - apt-get update apt-get -y install skypeforlinux To try to re...

Re: Mysterius deletion of an .odt document - Recovery?

If you 'just' deleted the file from the Filemanager (as opposed to using rm from the commandline), please check the Trash first: your document might be easily recoverable from there. Edit: I see you used a Live session, so this is no option;-) If not, you could use the (preinstalled) 'testdisk' util...

Re: little joy

Older versions of Spotify, even appointed for Debian9, used to require the libssl-package from Debian8.
But with the more recent versions of Spotify, that requirement=limitation is finally gone!

Re: "Get new window decorations" stalls

I tried to reproduce your problem and fired up my ancient SolydK8 system in VB: correct, I have the same issue! I am sure I did not have this issue back in the days that SolydK8, based on Debian Jessie, was still current. I suspect these kinds of additional material are simply no longer available fo...

Re: Migrating server to Europe

Provided that there are no major problems with the new server and this forum. I noticed that I did not get an email-notification upon replies to my topic about apt-transport-https earlier today. In the 'Edit notification options' in my profile are two columns called Notifications, left one is check...

apt-transport-https by default

After doing a fresh installation of SolydK lately, it occurred to me that when you add an https-repository to sources.list and import the corresponding key, doing 'apt-get update' just keeps hanging as if there is a network failure or the repository is unavailable. The actual cause, however, is that...

Re: Kate loads on bootup

Perhaps for some reason Kate is autostarted with this desktop-file as parameter, instead that it is executed which is probably the intention.
Is there anything present in the KDE autostart directories? Assuming this is SolydK9, can you show the output of

Code: Select all

ls -la ~/.config/auto*

Re: Something is mounting stuff to /media

A normal user does have r-x permissions to his/her named subdirectory under /media by means of a user-specific (extended) ACL. On mounting external media, another subdirectory is created named after the label of the device and this mountpoint is set to be owned by the user. As an example, when I (ba...

Re: Issue with configuration of .xsession-errors

Hi ilu, You did not bork your system, at least not in this regard ;) I compared my findings on K directly with a live session of X on VB: on X I get the same directions of java's stdout and stderr to ~/.xsession-errors as you do. Why that is, however, I cannot tell so far. You might take a look at h...

Re: Testing ISOs 201712

I've fixed KGpg in the solydk-system-adjustments packages and replaced Knotes with Gnote (I think they were most similar and had the least dependencies). Indeed, SolydXK System Settings doesn't have the same functionalities when running live. It would be unnecessary or even unsafe to use them. I al...

Re: Some clues about CPU vulnerabilities? Spectre and meltdown

I was going to say: you are not safe because PTI should be enabled. But, I checked on my old AMD-desktop and it shows that, apparently, the kernel has a routine that checks the CPU-brand and only enables PTI by default when on Intel. As you, @eselma, are on AMD, this will be the intended behaviour, ...

You are right, @grizzler, thanx !
To avoid confusion, I edited my post above, indicating which paragraph is [wrong].
I was actually looking for strikethrough, but not all BBCode parses this;-)

Re: Issue with configuration of .xsession-errors

Hi ilu, I reproduced your scenario on SolydK9. As you can see below, the stdout and stderr output of MediathekView(java) are redirected to something like 'pipe'. When comparing SolydX, the way stdout messages of MediathekView are showing up in ~/.xsession-errors is not happening like that in SolydK....

Re: Some clues about CPU vulnerabilities? Spectre and meltdown

Can somebody clarify which bug is mitigated by PTI and whether this fix is applied to the kernel in general or only on the kernel modules for Intel CPUs? Should AMD and ARM users set the nopti boot parameter to avoid unnecessary slowdown? It is just the nature of these vulnerabilities that PTI only...

Re: Some clues about intel CPU vulnerabilities?

This latest kernel you are referring to is related to the Intel-only Meltdown vulnerability.
For the general processor Spectre vulnerability there is not a fix available at this time.

Re: Testing ISOs 201712

I did a quick review on SolydK today: * starting KGpg results in an error (explainable error message) * starting Knotes then add New note results in an error (has been around, tried to debug it, so far without success) * SolydXK-settings seems to have limited functionality, two tabs (perhaps this is...
