Re: CruchBang is gone!!

I played around with cruchbang while distro-hopping a few years ago. It's sad to see a popular distro go.

Re: Goodbye! and an explanation...

I'm just seeing this now.

ZZ, as others have said, you will be missed. I learned a lot from your posts here and on LM. You have helped me out with a few issue back in the LMDE days and I thank you for that. I wish you and your family the best.

Re: NSA: how easy it is to become a terrorist

Just by using Tor, you are targeted by the NSA. A few days ago I saw an article about how reading or subscribing to one of the Linux Magazines got you on the "watch list." Everyone knows we would be using Windows and not Linux unless we were "up to something". :D Isn't it exciting to live dangerous...

Re: The future of SolydXK

I have nothing technical to add to this discussion. But, if these changes result in a stable and lightweight OS for my netbook, I'm good with it.

Re: SolydXK laptop

Here in the USA there is also a company called ZaReason - https://zareason.com/shop/home.php They currently offer on their laptops/desktops Ubuntu, Linux Mint, OpenSuse, Debian, Fedora, Kubuntu, Edubuntu, Other and No operating system. Maybe SolydXK could be added to the list offered or a special p...

Re: Skipping update packs?

I need to back up my data and give it a try. My use of the netbook is similar to the op. Maybe the business addition would be better for me too.

Now that I think of it, I'm about 2 or 3 service packs behind.

Re: Your First Linux Distro?

My first was Mandrake Linux back in high school. I used it to experiment and test the linux water. From there I moved to Linspire and Debian while in college then to Ubuntu after graduating. Now I have Mint 13 xfce on my desktop and solydx, lmde, and mint10 on my netbook.

Re: What can we "safely turn-off" to speed up computer?

CW, I'm using the standard Kernel that ships with SolydX. I was using Liquorix with LMDE-xfce, but noticed no difference. I have used powertop and have turned of a couple services from auto starting and have notice a difference in power savings. In my opinion, efficiency, speed, and power savings al...

Re: What can we "safely turn-off" to speed up computer?

With my netbook, I'm more concerned with power savings then with speed. My general rule is if I don't know what it is, then I don't touch it. Gene, thanks for starting this thread, as it has encouraged me to turn off a few more items. I'll report back when I have a chance to play.
