Failed to install SolydX with disk encription

Well I have just spent the whole weekend, literally all of it, trying to get SolydX installed. No dice. Thing is, I need to have the whole drive encrypted. Of course the installer doesn't support this, but I'd found a way around this with SolydK. Unfortunately KDE has made no progress in fixing bugs...

Thanks I saw that. (Notice my post at the bottom)

But to me that's not a permanent solution.

Re: Blank screen after SolydK has loaded

So compositing does not seem to be the issue. I wonder whether EDID interrogation is getting messed up? Surely you have enough video RAM (often set in BIOS). Try a cold reboot -without- the external monitor attached. If that gives the same result, edit /etc/default/grub and add to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX...

Re: Hot additions to customize XFCE ! [How To's]

That's about it for me and XFCE. I've now officially switched back to KDE after a year of experimenting with XFCE. It's nice and fast, but has limitations. (not being able to set owner:group in Thunar, really? Stand on your head, close one eye, and do contortions for pkexec?) Doesn't seem like there...

Re: freenas server, unable to access

Well, SolydK is trying to reach it with CIFS. (port 445) Is that port being presented by the NAS appliance? Either not, or your firewall has that port closed. Probably SolydX is reaching the NAS through ports 138/139. My gosh, I can't believe they are still using SMB in This Modern World... isn't po...

Re: Disable ipv6 [SOLVED]

Couple of things: - No need to mess with the kernel, but disable it in the kernel at boot. # nano /etc/default/grub ... and somewhere in GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash nomodeset ipv6-disable=1 video=uvesafb:mode_option=800x600-16,mtrr=3,scroll=ywrap" ... put ipv6-disable=1 Save, and # upda...

Re: SolydXK Wiki

I suggest we set up our own wiki --wiki.solydxk.org-- using mediawiki. Just a VirtualHost.

It's pretty much a snap to set up, and I have some articles to launch it off. (mostly security-related) :P

Re: Canon MG3160 wifi [Solved]

meh? I have hfs.

Code: Select all

# modprobe hfs
# lsmod |grep hfs
hfs 45904 0
sch_hfsc 18369 0
#
Pretty much all filesystems are available.

Or, get the Winduhs driver and unwrap that, but it's alot more hassle.

Re: startpar: service(s) returned failure: plymouth ... fail

Thank you ProfTanner.

This solution is only for those running XFCE (SolydX), not KDE. The desktop manager for SolydX is lightdm, and the one for SolydK is KDM.

ProfTanner he's running SolydK not SolydX. jpeterj hm, I wonder if with the vesa driver, it couldn't get into framebuffer mode, so X crashed. Well, fine. Your video chipset has a much better driver anyway. (intel) What I'm looking for (with /etc/X11/xorg.conf deleted) using: # cat /var/log/Xorg.0.lo...

Re: Blank screen after SolydK has loaded

Those errors in .xsession-errors are (unfortunately) normal. We are most interested in EE and WW lines in /var/log/Xorg.0.log . Let's see what kind of video card you have: # apt-get install lshw # lshw -C display If you have a weird or old video card, or if the system is misidentifying it, this woul...

Re: Canon MG3160 wifi

Looks like this is a printer sold Down Under only . Here's a story: I have an expensive Xerox solid-ink Phaser 8860 printer. The standard 88** drivers which come with CUPS were pretty sorry, and I wanted the best and most current driver I could find for this printer. Surprisingly, a printer driver i...

It is just hard to believe this is not a bad download or burn.

What kind of video card is this? Are you sure you've tried without Plymouth?

When viewing the cert, hit Edit Trust. Are they all checked?

In Preferences|Advanced|Certificates, when you hit Validation, is only the first one checked? See whether unchecking it helps.

Re: Blank screen after SolydK has loaded

Sounds like something may have gone queer with compositing. Check /var/log/Xorg.0.log and ~/.xsession-errors for problems. You might disable autologin by going to Terminal 1 (<Ctrl><Alt><F1>) Log in as root # nano /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc Comment out (toward the bottom) AutologinEnable=true Save and rebo...

You probably need to import it into TBird.

- Edit|Preferences|Advanced and hit the Certificates tab.

Clean up that text

Out of the box, XFCE text isn't as good as it could be. Clean it up this way:

- Menu|Settings|Appearance
- Hit the Fonts tab
- Make sure that 'Enable anti-aliasing' is checked
- Set Hinting to Slight
- Set Sub-pixel order to RGB.

Now your text will be much clearer.

Find here Here's a little addition that you'll wonder how you ever did without. In Thunar, right-click any folder and get Find here in the context menu. I think Catfish is pretty worthless because I am usually searching for text within files. So I first: # sudo apt-get install kfind Now make a righ...
