Re: Mistaken upgrade

I have no idea how I got testing in there. I suppose now that y'all have pointed this out, I obviously need to reinstall. Bummer! apt upgrade -s Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Done The following packages were automatica...

Re: Mistaken upgrade

SolydK 8. I recently ran dist-upgrade in a perhaps ill-fated attempt to resolve some packages issues.

Mistaken upgrade

I'm not sure what specifically in a recent upgrade process broke my installation of SolydK, but I broke it somehow. Everything seems fine up until the Desktop appears. Grub, boot splash screen, login screen, all of these things appear normal. However, when the Desktop appears, I'm no longer greeted ...

[Solved] Fresh live USB install freezes

I'm a long-time SolydXK user. I'm currently running SolydX on an old Asus Eeepc and have been running SolydK as the primary OS on my Desktop since 2013. I recently bought a new hard drive and decided to give it a fresh install from the latest 201506 ISO of SolydK 64-bit. I created the Live USB using...

Re: VLC Player crashes

What crash messages do you get when running vlc from terminal? Good suggestion, thank you. The output: VLC media player 2.1.4 Rincewind (revision 2.1.4-0-g2a072be) [0x7f508013d068] pulse audio output error: PulseAudio server connection failure: Connection refused [0x74f118] main libvlc: Running vlc...

I tried

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get remove vlc
as well as

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get purge vlc
and reinstalling, same issue.

VLC Player crashes

After trying to open really hard for about ten seconds, VLC Player crashes. SMPlayer works.

Latest UP of SolydK installed but it was having this problem before the latest UP.

Saving torrent to network location

Is there a way to save the contents of a torrent to a network location? I'm using Transmission-qt and SolydK.

I thought I did try that. Did it again as you suggested for good measure and it seems to be working correctly now.

Thanks!

dual booting with Windows 7 says "no such device found,"

So SolydK works fine. Grub sees my Windows 7 as well as SolydK install. When I select Windows 7, it gives me a "no such device found" error and asks me to click enter. I click enter and it boots into Windows.

Any ideas?

Re: Windows 7 update borked SolydK install

I think the Windows Update intially messed up the bootloader but I think in my haste to fix it I screwed it up more by running fsck on the filesystem while mounted. I'm certain that's what happened now.

Re: Windows 7 update borked SolydK install

You know what, I believe you're right. I remember there was a file system check option in boot-repair-disk, I could have easily checked it in my haste.

I don't suppose there is a way to recover from this if it is, as you say, a big no-no.

Re: Windows 7 update borked SolydK install

After going into a live disc and then mounting the offending partition, I see that there is only a boot folder and a lost+found folder. All of the files for SolydK seem to be in this lost+found folder, under various folders eg #3407873 . I can see my files, I know they are around still, but they are...

Windows 7 update borked SolydK install

Windows 7 pushed an update recently that seems to have messed up grub. When I restarted the PC to return to SolydK, grub was compaling of a missing .mod file. I thought, "no problem, just run boot-repair-disk." Grub no longer gives me the error butg instead goes straight to Windows without letting m...

Re: SolydK hangs when booting

Pressed the arrow up key during the splash, noticed it was hanging due to file system errors. Switched over to a live disk, unmounted the boot partition, then ran manual fsck. Everything back to normal now.

Re: SolydK hangs when booting

I should have been more clear in my description. I can make it past grub, it just stays at the SolydK splash screen indefinitely. I have had grub problems in the past, but reinstalling grub or using the grub boot-repair-disk solved it. Just for kicks I tried the boot-repair-disk but it was to no ava...

[Solved] SolydK hangs when booting

Not totally sure which section to put this in, anyway... I have had a SolydK install on my desktop for over a year now. Went to sleep last night downloading some files, woke up this morning and Dolphin was throwing me weird errors when I tried to open location to unzip files. Something about not hav...

[SOLVED] Update completely froze system, grub rescue reboot

I tried to install the most recent update. Some way through the update the system became completely unresponsive, not responding to keystrokes or mouse clicks. I waited for about 30 mins, still no response. I decided to restart the system, was greeted with the grub rescue prompt. I've tried a lot of...
