Re: unwanted bold font in Firefox ESR

Using ESR 60.7 - I have my fonts set to use Noto Sans and I have the box that allows sites to use their own fonts UN-checked. My monitor runs at 102 dpi I see bold fonts on wikipedia so assume it's basic html bold - no matter what the zoom level. WRT the bold in Fastmail - no idea - but it sounds li...

Re: Firefox/waterfox and DoH - what default to choose?

the browser is not _and should not_ resolve the address by itself. what firefox did is forcing us to use cloudflare as the default resolver. it's annoying but it's not less secure by any means. Yes - you are right, what I as thinking was more in the lines of was if firefox forces resolution via clo...

Re: Firefox/waterfox and DoH - what default to choose?

DNS over HTTPS sounds like a good idea At a gut level I feel that transferring something as important as name resolution to a browser application is just wrong. What bothers me is just how resilient it is likely to be and also, given the recent certificate issue that borked FF extensions, is this go...

Solydx Firefox Adjustments cause problems with some sites

I have run into a couple of issues using Firefox and a few sites. For example it is not possible to read any mail on gmx.com. Just get 403 error. Works fine with Chromium or other distros with Firefox. Removing the adjustments and working with long standing profile with ublock-origin and all is good...

Re: Fumble fingers and Solydxk 10

This sounds like a bug but since it apparently was on an old SolydX9 release and we are now busy preparing SolydX10 it's probably not worth digging into. SolydX10/EE installed fine without swap, right? Just tried on a different machine - Acer laptop - and installed EE with no swap required - there ...

Re: Fumble fingers and Solydxk 10

The first annoyance is if I use that much swap I will be forced to repartition the disk. You can choose swap size on install. Out of interest I was - apparently - forced to provide a SWAP file minimum 2G or no install would be possible. I have 4G RAM so that follows the old adage of 50% swap. This ...

Re: Live Installer vs Calamares

Q4OS uses Calamares installer on the Buster 10 testing version. I've used it for lots of installs, it works - the only issue is the low visibility of Re-use home option on a populated drive. It's there, just easy to miss. Honestly - the current installer works, unless there's a technical reason to c...

Entering letter f in user details switches to full screen

Just installed latest 2019.02 and was rather puzzled when entering user details, password and hostname. Pressing letter f resulted in switching to full screen mode - is it just me??

UK locale and keyboard - if it makes any difference.

UFW logging and blocks

My logs are getting a lot of :- [UFW BLOCK] IN=wlan0 OUT= MAC=01:00:5e:00:00:01:router mac address:08:00 SRC=192.168.1.254 DST=224.0.0.1 LEN=36 TOS=0x00 PREC=0xC0 TTL=1 ID=30122 DF PROTO=2 in my message logs. From what I can fathom by searching this is something to do with Multicast and UFW. Now, my...

Re: fstab configuration breaks clamav updates

anyway, why did this post goes here? did the forum broke again? 1. I noted that clamav sigs were not updating 2. I noted that clamav upgrade was not being applied 3. Checked /var/log for /clamav which was missing - which it was. Clamav doesn't check to see if the log file exists. 4. Checked fstab t...

Re: [SOLVED] XFCE 4.12 - use care when upgrading xfce4-session

Only repo added was Mepis MX15 for installing XFCE 4.12 out of a Jessie stable rather than Testing Log file is less than 100K, but the point is the sheer amount of cruft that a DEBUG log is writing all the time is just a waste of CPU cycles and disk writes. If we're trying to reduce wear and tear on...

[SOLVED] XFCE 4.12 - use care when upgrading xfce4-session

If you decide to upgrade to xfce 4.12 please be aware that xfce4-session 4.12 is built with XFSM_VERBOSE enabled. This results in a very large xfce4 session verbose log file in ~/home. The general idea is that you want your machine to work as fast as possible and writing (albeit sometimes useful) lo...

fstab configuration breaks clamav updates

Hi Just thought you aught to know that putting /var/log into tmpfs stops clamav from working. :o If clam cannot find /var/log/clamav it doesn't create it - it just doesn't update etc. I do not know whether UpdateLogFile in freshclam.conf is read as a variable in all the locations where /var/log/clam...

XFCE desktop icon spacing

I found the desktop icon spacing a bit wide on SolydX (jessie) and thought others may find this useful. Modify .gtkrc-xfce by adding:- XfdesktopIconView::cell-spacing = 5 XfdesktopIconView::cell-padding = 5 XfdesktopIconView::cell-text-width-proportion =2.0 into the file as below - I've changed the ...

Re: starter icons

This does seem to be a pain, but on reflection is actually a Good Thing. Why? Well, the world and his dog always go on about how secure linux is, and that as a user you cannot easily damage the OS etc etc. Personally it's my data I'm worried about. Now, the launchers (.desktop files) live either in ...

Hi

You could also try adding your user account to the scanner group (and or saned) sorry I don't have my scanner connected to my solydx machine yet so cannot confirm but give it a whirl - may need to log out and in after making change.
