Thanks for this info Schoelje.
I agree that such data gathering should be opt in.

I recently got another machine and installed SolydK9 64bit.
I have altered my Firefox ESR profile file accordingly.

Good point! I think I might as well pull the nvidia card.

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

According to Debian Wiki you can simply run: apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r|sed 's,[^-]*-[^-]*-,,') nvidia-driver and restart. I tried this but there was a notice that the legacy drivers would not work with my chipset. But it might be prudent to first run nvidia-detect to see if there are dri...

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

I have just downloaded and put Solydk 9 32 bit on my spare machine. It all seems to work, except that the graphics are a pain. If a menu brings up another page over itself only some of it will show. Clicking around where I think the entry needs to be, or just typing something will often (not always)...

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Sorry, no new ISOs yet. Just a small note about the state of affairs.... I do intend to build them before the end of the month, though. I am looking forward to the 32bit version. (I really will have to go modern with 64bit sometime...) When I think of all the gratis work that goes into preparing th...

Re: [Open]Can't Install Updates - SolydX 8

I suggest you try to update from Synaptic. Remember to click on reload first. Then click installed (upgradable). Then mark all upgrades and go on from there. The update manager has been doing odd things for me lately, including notifying upgrades when there aren't any! Using Synaptic will sort this....

Re: Update Video Broken

Google gave me this: https://help.netflix.com/en/node/57681 Thanks for the tip Schoelje. I tried this and it doesn't work with Firefox. :x (Yes I did close and restart after changing things). I still have no idea why some updates of FF work with netflix and others don't. Perhaps when the next worka...

Re: Update Video Broken

For me it worked to set "media.eme.enabled" to true. I made sure I do not have the esr version. Found I already had set media.eme.enabled to true. Switched off the Agent Override. Tried to watch something on netflix and got Error code: F7363-1260. I switched on the Agent Override and got the same E...

I for one enjoyed reading through your installation experience.

This seems to happen to those of us who don't like to throw away old machines. :)

Three cheers to Solydxk for still making 32bit ISOs available!

PS: I switched off sleep mode.

Re: Update Video Broken

I had the same problem today with a clean install and after replacing firefox-esr with firefox. You need to change this in about:config to true: media.eme.enabled I find that some of the firefox updates will work with netflix and some won't. Most annoying. I see that not using firefox.esr has been ...

Re: Icedove to Thunderbird transition

Edit Forgot to add: before I ran that test, I purged the installed thunderbird packages and removed ~/.thunderbird. This is the most important bit! But I didn't have to purge anything. My thunderbird installed as permanently running. When I found this out and eventually worked out how to turn it of...

Re: Icedove latest update is thunderbirdbird. How do I find my mail?

OK folks. I've done it. I removed the firebird icon from the pane. I right clicked on it and selected quit from the firebird menu - how easy was that! I'm getting more stupid in my old age. I then did the file name swap as grizzler suggested and it all worked! :D So once again thank you...

Re: Icedove latest update is firebird. How do I find my mail?

@grizzler. OK to avoid confusion I'll better keep out of this. Just in case things fail your way, he can easily copy his old mailboxes in the folders I told him to create and afterwards use thunderbird to copy/paste the emails into the right inbox/sentbox. It's the "import function" he asked about ...

Re: Icedove latest update is firebird. How do I find my mail?

@grizzler: that's the savest approach for everybody. But it shouldn't be necessary. It definitely isn't what the extra script Debian added is doing. Thunderbird should "just work" with the ~/.icedove directory renamed to ~/.thunderbird. I think I have found why the changing directory names did not ...

Re: Icedove latest update is firebird. How do I find my mail?

Please don't mess up the name. It's thunderbird. You calling it firebird (which is a database package) makes it difficult to guess whether or not you used the correct name when you renamed the directory. Please confirm this. Yes I did use the correct name, and yes I have backups of both /.icedove a...

Re: Icedove latest update is firebird. How do I find my mail?

Thanks for the help, Grizzler. First this in on my stable SolydK 32bit machine. I've already tried the name switch of /.icedove for /.firebird but firebird just churned for a few minutes and then shut down. Of course the import feature doesn't work either. It doesn't recognize icedove as a mail syst...

Icedove latest update is thunderbirdbird. How do I find my mail? SOLVED

Today update manager gave me an update of icedove. I updated and when I went to get my mail I was presented with Thunderbird offering me to set up an account. If icedove has gone how do I find my old mail setup and how do I put it into Thunderbird? Is there an import feature, I can't seem...
