Re: LibreOffice 5

I wouldn't install something from a deb file. Sometimes a program or the particular version of a program I want is not in the Solyd repos. I go for the files marked 'deb all' if they are available. So far it has caused no trouble. If it ever does I can always remove it and/or reinstall the old one.

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

The mirrors haven't been updated (only checked NL and AU). I use the internode mirror in AU so this would account for my problem! I will try again and if the package is not there I will switch to somewhere else. Here's hoping! A hour or so later:- The mirror has just updated. The flashplugin is dow...

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

I went through all the commands you suggested. There was 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded (this is my Gramps program that is blacklisted). On running apt install solydxk-flashplugin I got exactly the same response as before. apt install solydxk-flashplugin Reading packag...

Adobe just released version 24 of the Flash player and it's now available in our repository. The package name is solydxk-flashplugin.
I haven't found the latest plugin in the 32 bit K repo.
Please can we have it?!

It is what I need for the ABC Aussie iview.

Re: Adobe to update Linux Flash Player

Most of our tv catchup services require Adobe flash.

I've had a look at the download site and there is no deb.
What would be the best way to get it onto Solyd firefox?

Re: Chromium, WidevineCdm and Netflix

Firefox 49.0 has just been released, and yes it will run netflix - so I suppose Chromium will follow suit. I actually installed it on the latest Kubuntu (32 bit) which I have running on another machine. No it doesn't work right away. DRM needs to switched on in FF and a User Agent is also nee...

Re: HP Printer update

I usually create a VM, temporary switch jessie to testing in /etc/apt/sources.list, install the package (use with --no-install-recommends) and test if all is functioning properly. If all's well, I repeat those steps on my production machine (after making an image of the system) and pray that all go...

HP Printer update

I'm looking to buy a new printer and I want an HP. Unfortunately the ones I'm considering all need HPLIP 3.15.9 or higher. Solyd has only 3.14 in the repos. I've tried downloading the latest version but the installer says I don't have the dependencies. I OKed downloading them, but some are not avail...

Re: Chromium, WidevineCdm and Netflix

Netflix needs the WidevineCdm component which - on Linux - is only provided by Google Chrome. Consequently it doesn't work on chromium. Just now I saw this: https://gist.github.com/ruario/3c873d43eb20553d5014bd4d29fe37f1 . Has anybody tried? I've just had a close look at this. Putting it on chromiu...

Re: Why do you prefer Debian based distros

I used to use Fedora when it seemed to be the only thing around. I hated the RPM package manager. When I moved to a debian system I was much happier and have stayed with it ever since. Last week I decided to put Mint Cinnamon Sarah on my other machine. In the hope of finding some way of accessing Ne...

Re: Epsom xp220, 320, 420 printers

Thanks for the information.
I had a look at my cups list but did not see that particular Epsom series.

I think I shall see if the shop will let me 'try and return'.

Epsom xp220, 320, 420 printers

I have been offered these printers at a very good price, but I want to know if there are useable drivers available. I've downloaded the xp220 (ubuntu) .deb driver from Epsom and installed it. Thinking to see what it had to offer. The deb installed and pulled in a few dependencies, but I can't see ho...

As announced in November 2015 Google have now stopped releasing updates for Chrome 32bit on Linux. Here a bit of news about it Apparently the Chromium team will continue with the 32bit version of their browser. Unfortunately Chromium does not allow direct access to netflix as Chrome does and appare...

Re: Dropbox running but no symbol in task bar

The same thing has happened to me. No icon in the task bar and using the kmenu doesn't work either. It keeps up-to-date and syncs with my other computers. But if I want direct access I have to go to my url on the dropbox web site. I tried running dropbox autostart in the console. It had a warning th...

Wish I could afford one. My TV screen is smaller than either of my computers.... the TV is too old to hitch up to a computer.. :(
