Re: The update release cycle

The update packs are for the home editions only. Ah ok. And so, what are differences between SolydX BE and Debian Stable? Correct me if I'm wrong...the biz editions follow Debian stable more strictly so it's mostly security patches, etc, that are 'trickled' in, the home editions being based on Debi...

Re: SolydXK steadily gaining in popularity ...

Now recommending a little cheating here as been watching SolydXK sliding down from 32 to 35 to 40 for 6 months numbers for last 3-4 weeks. http://distrowatch.com/ I know for a fact it's one click per IP per day on any distro's specific distrowatch page that's counted. I recently suggested ways arou...

Re: How to turn my SolyX to SolydK

we don't ship a SolydX's xfce4, it's the vanilla debian with tweaks; the procedure would be similar to what you have done when "solydifying" debian proper. Yeah but if they were to install Xfce on top of an already installed SolydK, all the Solyd 'tools' would be available in Xfce, like Update Mana...

Re: How to turn my SolyX to SolydK

Since we're on the topic. Is installing Solydx in Solydk (the reverse) simply a matter of: sudo apt-get install xfce4 (?) sudo apt-get install xfce4 xfce4-goodies but that will give you the standard debian xfce desktop and not the SolydX tweaked. Yeah but assuming they have the SolydX repos enabled...

Re: How to turn my SolyX to SolydK

Since we're on the topic. Is installing Solydx in Solydk (the reverse) simply a matter of: sudo apt-get install xfce4 (?) Pretty much but I would 'search' "xfce" in Synaptic after the main xfce meta-package is installed and install all the 'goodies' and plugins, etc, same like if only installing kd...

Re: How to turn my SolyX to SolydK

I have tried the live solydK, but I couldn't know if the delay was a result of DVD playing (decompressing each software), or my machine. There are ways to check this, I'm not sure how much memory you have, but there are KDE distros (PCLinuxOS, Knoppix, to name a few) that have the copy-to-ram featu...

Re: Kernel 13.4.1 PAE won't boot (anymore)

Is the old kernel un-installed? You could try this, no guarantees of course... Boot with the old kernel and run... dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-<version/type> or... update-initramfs -u and maybe even... update-grub Debian Kernel Handbook You may even want to possibly downgrade back to the old kernel...

Re: Saving torrent to network location

If you have network locations enabled in your file manager already, they should appear in Transmission's 'save to' dialogue. Theoretically it should work as long as every time you open Transmission, it has access to that network location/folder and the 'address' never changes. What you are proposing...

Re: Installation Failure

Sorry to chime in guys but Foggy, have you been in the BIOS and made sure all the processor 64-bit features are enabled (it could have been running 32-bit Vista)? Does the video chip have enough 'shared' system RAM? Have you run a full memory test, opened it to see if it needs a physical cleaning? T...

Re: How to turn my SolyX to SolydK

First, welcome to this forum. :D The 'desktop environment' has no effect on how any 'distro' (the base OS) runs except DEs vary in size and system load when active, so the only diff I can see is KDE might lag your laptop and drain your battery faster (when not on AC of course). Just an idea but you ...

Re: Restoring Partitions to a New Hard Drive?

Whenever I do something like that, I boot the computer with a utility disk that has a 'Ghost' like program on it. I've also used testdisk to 'revitalize' dying HDDs long enough to get the data off. You are right about fstab though, it would either be auto added or you could try disk-manager if manua...

Re: [SOLVED] Lost monitor power management

Another note, this may have something to do with the Transmission window having the focus while running, it would seem Transmission is able to inhibit power management and the monitor is grouped in, but when I switched to a different workspace and gave that workspace the focus, the screensaver would...

I would definitely use this operating system. Totally customizable and solid as a rock, I put it through hell and it came out the other side unscathed. :ugeek: Consider me a 'customer' anyway, I'll just make donations when I can. :D

Re: Dual SSD Raid 0 crazytown revisited, lol

Not only did I manage to successfully downgrade many packages (disable and eliminate bpo and dmo), I was able to install ALL 9 trouble making packages previously mentioned in this thread, I would call it a success. Why am I so happy about this? Because re-installing is a PAIN, getting everything the...

Re: Dual SSD Raid 0 crazytown revisited, lol

wheezy won't catch up with version number, not until it is promoted to jessie; i honestly have no idea how frequently DMO-stable is updated but i would disable BPO (from there i know that you can get frequent updates) and would enable it only in a "need-this-new-feature" basis. I disabled both and ...

Or...I could just disable dmo and bpo and wait for SolydX BE to 'catch up' to my 'foreign' packages/versions, since everything is working. Just a thought, just an option. :? :geek:
