Re: My old laptop is WAY behind!

I'm assuming that you're using the stable version. if that true, you can do a dist-upgrade to solydxk 9. just make sure to create a backup and do a simulation before executing the real upgrade

Re: I lose Windows MBR with SolydK

if I understand it correctly, the answer is, the efi partition should not formatted. you can format everything else but the efi partition

Re: Fusión

no one said that solydk will merged into mx. both distribution could stay alive. I'm not quite sure but this thread sounds like a personal invitation. it might be better if both of you keep it private btw, yes. aside from technical side as ilu have described above, IMO both distro should live as dif...

Re: 4k Monitor: does it make sense?

I'd say, buy a good 1080p monitor and save for better hardwares. the law of diminishing return means that it's hard to differentiate between 1080p and 4k. your chips will struggle with 1080p anyway. you might ended up with downscaling your resolution to 1080p or even 720p which I believe was the des...

Re: boot delay 90 secs dev-disk-by

no worries. OP didn't mention anywhere specifically about system partition. he simply asked whether if it possible to mount other partitions. you even aksed whether if you understand him correctly. no harms is done

Re: boot delay 90 secs dev-disk-by

you can safely mount a shared partition between two OS. I think it's a common practice on multi boot system. though, on linux, keep on mind to mount the shared partition somewhere safe, preferably under /media. else, you can manually mount the shared partition based on demand

Re: boot delay 90 secs dev-disk-by

when you recreate the swap partition, you also change the uuid. find the new uuid using schoelje's instruction above then replace the uuid in fstab :3

+1
just turn off recommended packages option. less packages > easier dpkg resolve > less breakage > overall slimmer system > easier to maintain. basicly, lot of good things :3

Re: Freezing, Apt and SSH issues

it's another brute method. you can try to reinstall power manager. sadly, I forgot which one. you can skip this part for a moment since the hints shows that it's indeed a low level stuff, either kernel or bios stuffs. if you could access the bios battery, you can start with replacing it. the last tw...

Re: Freezing, Apt and SSH issues

an apt reset should fix 1 and 2 (comment all repo entry, do an apt-get update, uncomment the repos, do an apt-get update once more). no ideas about 3. it could be the dreaded random freeze on intel chips but I rarely see this issue anymore. the sympton seems different too. a quick shot would install...

Re: Recent gnupg keyserver DOS attack

our repo management and lot of more stuffs still depends on pgp. due to it's nature a keyserver is required for pgp management. people like you and me won't need a keyserver but lot of devs works need keyserver. personally I think these stuffs is too much for us. it's better to leave the decisions t...

Re: AIO, HDMI Stick, Mini-PC, Monitor?

oodroid xu4 and asus tinker pad might be a good idea. though, you can search "raspberry pi alternative" and you'll see that you actually have lot more options. that being said, actually I think a mini pc is a better idea for you. a decent mini-pc will would give a better user experience. on top of t...

Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

the workaround is quite easy. simply press ctrl+alt+f1 and it should trigger the screen. after that, press ctrl+alt+f7 to return to our working screen. it is a well-known issue for most xfce user but they ignored it since the workaround is easy (sadly, that including me). well...most of debian user ...

Re: SolydXK 10 Preview and Testing

AFAIK that xfce bug won't get fixed soon. please correct me if I'm wrong. those are low level stuff and seems only intel guys could fix it. considering the workflow, it will takes quite amount of time until we fix it. I think you can drop this item from the initial release iso EDIT : I mean that bli...
