Re: System freezes after running for 3-4 hours

That's weird! What is your system configuration, particularly how much RAM you have? and how much swap space you have configured? When you detect such situation, press ctrl+esc and check which process is going rouge on your system. That might give you a better view of your problem. Sorry if these th...

Switch to new Plasma NetworkManager applet?

Guys, I am not trying to compare any other distro, but just noticed that Kubuntu Trusty's last night's build switched to the new Network Manager plasma applet. It looks kinda nice and functional. Is there any chance of getting it in next UP? 8-) Below is a screenshot of the same: https://lh4.googleu...

[SOLVED Partially] No Plymouth Screen on Shutdown/Hibernate

Hi Friends, I am on SolydK January update pack, fresh installed using January DVD ISO. As the title suggests, since some days I am not getting the plymouth splash screen at shutdown. Instead only a blank screen is shown for 10 seconds and the system shuts down or restarts normally. This has happened...

Re: What the Heck is going On with my KDE?

KDE is the only environment I really feel comfortable working with. Some can say its bloated, I feel KDE is the best and most complete DE available today. It has something for everyone. Its beautiful, its fast, its user friendly and at the same time it is perfect for power users too with all its con...

Re: SolydXK Theme and Icon pack

I'm not being very diligent at work on a Friday. But I did manage to put together a nice gray color scheme. In keeping with KDE names I call it Koncrete. We can change that if you like it and want to include it in SolydX. I never considered that for some reason. But here it is to look at. I think i...

Re: Ubuntu switch to systemd

Well, I have been an Ubuntu and its derivatives user (Kubuntu, Mint KDE) in the recent past and as far as system performance and stability is concerned, I never had many problems. I enjoyed my time with it, as much as I enjoyed my time with Fedora and OpenSUSE many years back. But the sense of insec...

Re: Ubuntu switch to systemd

I was waiting for this to happen since so long :) I love systemd for its simplicity and performance benefits. I was quite impressed by it in Fedora, and Debian embracing it gives me one more reason to stay with it. :)

Re: systemd on Solydxk

BTW, I stumbled across this mailing list post today, which seems we will see some interesting developments related to systemd by end of this year. Well, this is exciting! 8-) https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-announce/2013/10/msg00004.html Maybe SolydXK will be able to switch to systemd easily o...

Re: FF27 and TB24.3 in testing

OK, KDiff output is attached. The cursor theme change was done by me afterwards (using systemsettings GUI) so that doesn't matter, but otherwise its exactly same. :?

Re: FF27 and TB24.3 in testing

Ok, understood. So now that out of our way, what could have been the real reason. The strange thing is, both the files have same content and ownership/rights. Its really puzzling me. Nobody else reported it yet, right?

Re: systemd on Solydxk

I also am in favor of using systemd instead of sysv or upstart because of the great boot time performance. I am an intermediately skilled Linux user, using it since 1999 and learning everyday. By far, SUSE and Fedora/Korora have given me the best boot times and debian the worst. Ubuntu based distros...

Oh, but startupconfig is not a directory. Its the actual shell script file. It doesn't have any extension.

Re: Wrong Time Displayed

By default, Linux sets hardware clock to UTC, which can cause issues specially if you dual boot with windows. Below is the guide I use everytime I reinstall my linux os (quite frequently, to test various distros :) ) : 1. Edit the file: /etc/default/rcS in your favorite editor (you will need to use ...

Re: FF27 and TB24.3 in testing

This is exactly what I did on the terminal:

Code: Select all

mv /home/sumit/.kde/share/config/startupconfig ~/Desktop
I don't think this will move any hidden / dot files. Not trying to just prove my point, want to understand what resolved the issue for sake of others.

I am sure that was not the casse. I moved the file using precise move command from terminal so no chance of mistake there.

Re: FF27 and TB24.3 in testing

Are you talking about the plymouth splash that appears while system is booting, BEFORE login screen, or the KDE splash screen that appears AFTER the login screen, when KDE is loading? No offence, just trying to be on the same page :) In my case, i am able to change the plymouth splash and the login ...

Re: FF27 and TB24.3 in testing

One Problem

After applying yesterday's updates, I am not able to change my KDE splash screen. It is set to default SolydK screen and attempting to set it to anything does not produce any error but doesn't work either.

Please guide, what can I check?

Thanks for the updates team :) I installed the Firefox, Thunderbird and Flash Plugin updates on my SolydK production machine and everything is working as it should. Perfect! :)
