Re: Greetings from Romania

Hello Adrian and welcome to the SolydXK family. I'm a SolydX fan myself but you can't go wrong with either. Schoelje has done a great job with the SolysXK lineup.

Re: Need to learn how to overcome dependencies on install

So I already attempted to correct some of the missing dependencies using apt-get. Are you saying I should try to uninstall those too using Synaptic? Or just uninstall openshot? I don't even remember what they were. I think one of the dependencies had to do with python. Such a newbie nightmare! I wo...

Re: Desktop icons and wallpaper disappeared after system cra

Not really enough info to work with with. Xfce or KDE? If it's XFCE as I suspect try opening a terminal and enter

Code: Select all

xfdesktop
.
Had the same thing happen to me on an XFCE desktop and found the answer here -> http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=498

Re: Need to learn how to overcome dependencies on install

I personally prefer Synaptic Package Manager to Software Manager as I think there's less chance for that type of issue using Synaptic. You could try to uninstall it using Synaptic then re-install. You can also view dependencies there. But if you know the name of the application you want to install a...

Re: Please Help: Dual Booting Windows 8 DELL Inspiron 15z

Hi Adam - Welcome to the SolydXK family! Not sure if I'll be able to help you out here but I'm willing to give it a go. A little disclaimer is in order first though to avoid confusion: I do not have or will probably never have Windows 8 on a laptop or otherwise. I also do not have a system with UEFI...

Re: Problem Installing Dell C1760NW Printer

Hey Brian - Not sure if this will help or not. Unfortunately I have no experience with linux and printers (yet..) but found these 2 links for you to look at. This one http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-6000/downloads/engb.html?operatingSystem=linux is a link to the Xerox 6000 driver .deb bu...

Re: No sound with Nvidia CK804 Realtek ALC850

Hi Seyke, Nice to see you have sound at least. Maybe not the best solution in the long run but it gets you going for now and you can continue to look for other solutions at your leisure. If and when you find further info, it would be helpful for others if you update this post and then add [Solved] t...

Re: No sound with Nvidia CK804 Realtek ALC850

Hello Cobb, You're da slave... nah, da man. ;) Actually since I'm rather inexperienced with linux this has been a great learning exercise for me as I haven't troubleshot any sound issues until now. Anyhew.. After looking at the output of that alsa-info script it's got me as confused as I beli...

Re: No sound with Nvidia CK804 Realtek ALC850

Excellent. That gives us some good information to troubleshoot with. I did some quick searching and from what I've found it looks like a conflict in alsa mixer between the 2 audio devices, the Radeon HDMI audio and the Nvidia/Intel audio with alsa grabbing the HDMI audio as default and not playing n...

Hi Seyke. I am kind of new with this myself but let's see if we can tell what actual sound system you are using.

Please post the output of:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxx
inside of code tags.

Re: Hello from St. Louis!

Hey Fred. Welcome to the SolydXK family! Another St. Louis native here transplanted to the cold Northeast. I hadn't been back to see the family in quite awhile and rode out for a reunion last July 4th. Took my granddaughter to Grants Farm and had a blast. I think you'll like it here as it seems like...

Re: Hi from Canada. BE or HE?

So today my wife took all my keys by mistake and I am trapped at home with a warm fire, it is -15 C outside and I have a good internet connection. Looks like today is the day I replace LMDE with solydK and update all my apps. Unfortunately my cat is in heat  so there are some strange howls e...

Re: freefilesync program on solydxk

Interesting sync program. Maybe your archive didn't extract properly or the file properties were not carried in the extraction. I went to open the readme after I extracted into home and it asked me if I wanted to run or display. I thought that was odd for a text file so looked at permissions on all ...

Thanks.. I've looked at quite a few (Grisbi, Moneydance which isn't OSS, KMyMoney and Buddi) including Gnucash and of the bunch Gnucash is about the best but all seem to be lacking in one or more areas. My problem with all of them has been converting 20 years of investing and financial data so as to...

While I haven't run the media server in SolydK or KDE in general I did experiment with running it on Mint16 XFCE and it worked well. My Story

Thought I'd take a few minutes and give a little background how I got here before posting away. I've been on a journey of sorts for almost a year now. I've been looking for a way (as many do) to ditch the Windows shackles and really only have a few applications that hold me there. One being Quicken ...
