Re: Slow trackpoint - old solution stopped working

Well, not looking good. 1) Gnome does have (org/gnome/desktop/peripherals/mouse) a speed setting. It can be set (like the xinput property) between 0 and 1. Both those settings (Gnome and xinput) ignore each other , and have no effect. 2) xorg.conf.d. I made a custom file and tested both options: wit...

Re: Slow trackpoint - old solution stopped working

Did you try to use "Settings --> Mouse and Touchpad"? You can select your device and set acceleration there - nothing much more though. Stop here if that helps. I already tried the settings for 'PS/2 generic mouse' (recall that's how the ALPS trackpoint is recognized). But neither parameter (accele...

Re: Slow trackpoint - old solution stopped working

Thanks for helping Ilu, I don't think "Device Accel Profile" is meant to set speed. It selects a profile with that number. I definitely agree that "6" is a profile n° rather than a speed value. And this profile number doesn't seem to exist anymore. The profile needs to be defined somewhere - which i...

[Solved] Slow trackpoint - old solution stopped working

Hello all, My main laptop is a fairly old Dell Precision M6400. It has an ALPS trackpoint (what an idea...) which is not recognized as a trackpoint. That makes it unbearably slow (really, virtually useless). I used to apply this workaround . I made a startup app with this command line: xinput set-pr...

Re: pkexec fails to launch apps as root

Just FYI, either on the PC at work (just updated straight from solydxk-system 3.3.0 to 3.3.5) or on my 2nd home laptop... Reverting back and I get these problems in SolydX 10: gedibi doesn't work from within Thunar. ... I don't have any error with gdebi, either standalone or from Thunar (or even fro...

Re: pkexec fails to launch apps as root

Same thing here, back to normal with v. 3.3.5. Thanks.

FWIW, I had found that only 4 apps listed in the System menu wanted authentication before starting: Synaptic and Gparted of course, along with LightDM settings and SolydXK system settings. BR, Daniel

Re: pkexec fails to launch apps as root

I took the time to double-check everything this time, on both my home PCs for good measure. Both are back to normal, though for different reasons: 1st PC (main PC): after updating solydxk-system to version 3.3.4, the launchers resumed working straightforwardly. (Oddly enough, on this PC, the dpkg -S...

Re: pkexec fails to launch apps as root

Humm, I spoke too fast. I was testing from command line as super-user... Without that: $ pkexec gparted pkexec must be setuid root and of course sudo pkexec gparted (or sudo gparted-pkexec ) works. Moreover, $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/pkexec détournement par solydxk-system depuis : /usr/bin/pkexec détournem...

Re: pkexec fails to launch apps as root

Confirmed! With solydxk-system version 3.3.3, gparted and other apps using pkexec now start normally again.

Many thanks for your help. BR, Daniel

[edit] grizzler, is it OK for you too? Can I mark the thread as solved?

Re: pkexec fails to launch apps as root

Small update: I'm now in front of the desktop PC at work. The pkexec programs work well here (Synaptic, Gparted...) But this PC has not received these 3 latest updates yet: - wpasupplicant-2:2.4-1+deb9u4 - solydxk-system-3.3.2 - solydxk-welcome-1.7.0 Otherwise, the set of installed packages is prett...

Re: pkexec fails to launch apps as root

Hi, thanks for replying so quickly. The 1st and 3rd commands yield the very same output as yours. The 2nd one, however, gives a slightly different result: $ dpkg -S /usr/bin/pkexec détournement par solydxk-system depuis : /usr/bin/pkexec détournement par solydxk-system en : /usr/bin/pkexec.divert po...

pkexec fails to launch apps as root

Hi all, I think that something has gone slightly wrong with a recent update, though I can't tell you which one right now, (I have another PC at work which lags a little behind on updates, so maybe I could be more precise tomorrow.) I noticed --just today-- that all my launchers which run programs as...

Re: Update manager - some remarks

Problems with the update manager need to be reported upstream here: https://github.com/hughsie/PackageKit . Have a look at the file fr.po in the directory named "po". If the correct translations are already there we'll get them with the next Debian upgrade in summer. Thanks for showing me this file...

Update manager - some remarks

Hello all, I have e couple a questions about the update manager. But let me first tell as a new user that I love it: it's light, snappy, kicks in awesome fast, and it's completely unobtrusive. It's everything an update manager should be. Now, it's not completely localized in French. Let me show some...

Re: About Waterfox in the repos.

Thanks for your reply ilu. I followed your advice and it worked for me too. Let me add two details, in case it could help others: - for me uninstalling Waterfox was just the removal of /opt/waterfox. I had never found a deb file for Waterfox before, so Synaptic couldn't help. - after the replacement...

About Waterfox in the repos.

Hello, I've just discovered in the 201902 iso announcement that Waterfox now was in the SolydXK repos. That's excellent news! But what if I already have Waterfox manually installed (in /opt/waterfox) from direct downloading? Is it safe to overwrite the existing install? (The reason being, of course,...

Re: Weather on the panel not working

Oh, sorry, I was looking at the version numbers instead of the post dates. My apologies. However, Stretch (Stable) still has only version 0.8.9-1, which has the bug. I had to upgrade it to version 0.8.10-1 from Testing (not even backported for Stretch). So that's why I thought I should post. But, gr...

Re: Weather on the panel not working

Hmm... Wildman, I'm puzzled.

I can confirm that xfce4-weather-plugin 0.8.10-1 (from Buster/Testing) does work in SolydX; it pulls libxfce4util7 which is indeed in the SolydX repository (or Debian Jessie) - same version (4.12.1-3) as in Testing.

I've updated it on 2 PC's already.

Re: LibreOffice 6

Hi Stanxk, You can get it from the Stretch Backports: First, activate them in SolydX: System Settings - 2nd tab (Repositories) - check "Activate Backports" - click "Save Backports" then update Apt: sudo apt-get update (though I suspect SolydX System Settings does that automatically) then install Lib...

Hello from a new SolydX user

Hello all, I am new to SolydX, but not completely, because my previous distro was Linux Mint Debian. I very well new that I would eventually switch, and as my former distro was no longer supported. And since the latest version basically forced me to reinstall, I felt 2019 was the time for me to make...
