Re: Installing Variety backdrop changer

Xfce can change wallpapers without having to install an addon.
settings manager/desktop.
A wallpapers list can be generated which can be used to select a different backdrop at an interval determined by the user, randomly if desired.

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader "acroread" problematic pdf's

Further update Adobe Reader works ok, however I can only print 1 page at a time reliably as it can sometimes sit in "pending" indefinitely. I have also received some pdfs forms that need editing and Adobe Reader 9.5.5.1 can't do it. 9.5.5.1 is the latest version I can find on linux as they dropped s...

Package installs not in repo.

I have installed gnome-do from the tutorial in this forum below:- http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3693 gnome-do is not currently in the SolydXK repo's. If gnome-do is added to the repo's will it upgrade if a newer version appears? Is there a bigger risk of breakage through installing fr...

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader "acroread" problematic pdf's

Thanks very much ScottQuier I will have a go at that. I have made a resolution that works but I'd like to develop the ability to compile from source as it would restore the software library that I had in Ubuntu PPA land. The fix I have in place at the moment is sourced here:- http://ubuntuhandbook.o...

Re: Adobe Acrobat Reader "acroread" problematic pdf's

Hmmm, it would appear my printing is broke. Cups gets into an idle state which I can't get it out of. I am guessing it is the installation of "acroread-bin_9.5.5-1precise1_i386.deb" that has done it. However without the ability to open these akward pdf's in Solydx it gioves me a problem. Any ideas m...

Adobe Acrobat Reader "acroread" problematic pdf's

Installed this program via repo and appearred to work, however; I receive pdf's from an educational establishment that have fields in that require text typing in them. I could not open them using acroreader version 9.5.5 in the solydX repo. I can however open the files in Ubuntu 12.04 using acroread...

Re: Acer ER1401 emachines graphics

Thanks guys, the tutorial was where I got the code from to install the legacy driver (as quoted in my post). I did have a brief flirt with Manjaro last week and it too installed the new driver and not the legacy driver. However I searched for a fix and found in the Arch User Forum:- sudo gedit /etc/...

Acer ER1401 emachines graphics

I recently installed Solydx on this machine. It appeared to work fine on the Nouveau Open Source Graphics driver. However after I wondered if it would perform better with the proprietary Nvidia driver. I used the Solydx DDM on the welcome screen to install the current recommended Nvidia 331.xxx. Thi...

Re: How to install Gnome-do on SolydX

Thanks very much crborga, it worked for me. The mass of dependencies that were installed, I am guessing that they have more to do with the compilation tools than Gnome-Do? I that were the case I am good for compiling other programs I may need from source that are not on the solydxk repo. Once again ...

Considering a move from Xubuntu

SolydX appears to offer all I get from Xubuntu without the pain of PPA's to keep sofware fresh and the LTS upgrade/reinstall headache. I have run Solyd live and I am like what I see, it appears lighter than Xubuntu and I appear to be able to run all my software collection. Can anyone suggest any pit...
