OK, thanks.

When time permits I'll give UNetbootin a go and report back.

SolydK64-201405 disk won't boot on new PC.[Solved]

Bought a new Desktop PC and want to install SolydK64-201405 but my OSDisc.com CD won't boot to a live desktop environment. Visually, it loads to the point where the SolydK throbber appears, then goes stable and activity on the optical drive stops. The progress bar is never displayed. The SolydK64-20...

I did notice those options had been deselected after the update and re ticked those boxes, but I'm still seeing... asking for password.png I can go into the NM WiFi Wireless Security tab, copy and paste the password into the above box and then it connects. I'll try reinstalling the NM widget and set...

Re: KDE Network Manager icons [Solved]

The new KDE Network Manager shows an icon for mobile broadband and the associated signal strength.
Now Wifi won't auto connect. I suppose this too will be fixed at some stage in the future.

Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) [Solved]

Over the past couple of days I've been unable to log into my Gmail or eBay accounts. Just a little while ago I was advised the issue is due to the maximum transmission unit (MTU) setting. Changed this MTU setting for “Wireless” in KDE NetworkManager from automatic to 1430 and hey presto I can log in...

Specs for new PC?

Been thinking of getting a new desktop PC. Linux is my main desktop OS. Last time I had a box put together (7ish years ago) I asked for Linux friendly hardware and the builder did a pretty good job at selecting hardware that worked so I'm going back to the same shop again. Apart from their advice I'...

Re: Making a desktop link for a new program

Try right clicking Kickoff > Edit Applications.
Then select your desired sub menu and click on [New Item] on the tool bar.
You will be asked to name the new menu item, select a graphic for it and to type in a command to launch the application.

Folders open with VLC [Solved]

My friend is running SolydK BE. He likes to keep a a messy desktop with lots of folders just sitting there. Somehow a setting somewhere in KDE or VLC has changed so when any desktop folder is opened it opens with VLC. If there is any audio or video in the folder it plays with VLC. If it's just docum...

Re: Trouble installing SolydK64

With some spare time over the holiday period I tried again. Re seated the memory chips and vacuumed out the dust. This time it wouldn't take any operating system at all. Turns out the hard drive had been failing all along and had finally gone belly up. My friend had a new HDD put in and Windows7 rei...

Re: UP 2013.12.06 [PRODUCTION]

Internode mirror was quick. It's nice to have a mirror here in Australia. During the update there were some warnings about conflicts with Nvidia drivers. After reboot, no GUI. Followed same advice from the UP 2013.11.06 09:00 UTC [PRODUCTION] [DONE] thread. rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf rm /etc/modprobe.d/n...

Re: UP 2013.11.06 09:00 UTC [PRODUCTION]

[quote="Schoelje"]@dirigible I bet "blacklist-nouveau.conf" needs to be removed from /etc/modprobe.d The name suggests that it's blacklisting Nouveau. I have a desktop again, deleting blacklist-nouveau.conf did the trick. I'm not changing any video related setting untill I have a Clonezilla backup. ...

Re: UP 2013.11.06 09:00 UTC [PRODUCTION]

You just need to rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia* When you have a working system: make an image (with clonezilla) ;) Sorry Schoelje, I didn't mention those 2 files are no longer there. Files in /etc/X11/... default-display-manager xorg.conf.20130419_0825.bak xorg.conf.backup Xsession.o...

Re: UP 2013.11.06 09:00 UTC [PRODUCTION]

Fixed it, and then broke it again. Removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia* Rebooted, and KDE desktop came back. Issued the suggested commands in order. Rebooted, all good. But then I did something... I ran DDM and saw that I'm not running the suggested driver (nvidia) shown in bold. S...

Moved your post to the current UP topic.
