Re: Samba Daemon crash after update

EUREKA!!!!!!! I found a comment (and I don't recall where it was) but it basically said that /var/lib/samba/private/msg.sock permissions should be 700 and not 755. I changed the permissions and rebooted. All services were running and as a test, I reinstalled apmd and it reinstalled with no error. I ...

Re: Samba Daemon crash after update

There may be similarities, but I'm not sure it's the same thing. This morning I noticed that the screen was blanking out after a few minutes, so I went to Power Management and the service wasn't running. I reinstalled apmd (utilities for power management) and the same kind of errors came up - basica...

Samba Daemon crash after update {resolved}

I did the most recent set of updates on SolydK-9 earlier today and got an error that went quickly flashing by as the new update manager was finishing off. I would pull a report from it, but I have no idea where to find anything for that new one. But afterward, I ran apt-get autoremove and got the fo...

Re: Default printer not recognized by applications

Thanks for your comments, ilu. While I was preparing a response, the idea popped into my head to remove the PDF printer and then reinstall it. This actually worked. Now, the PDF printer is available for selection, but the LaserJet (default printer) comes up ready to print.

Default printer not recognized by applications {solved}

I set up my printers (one LaserJet and one PhotoPrint) using the setup process in System Setting / Hardware / Printers. CUPS PDF printer was already set up. After configuring my printers, I set the LaserJet as default printer. When I go to Print with every application that I tried, the PDF "printer"...

Sub-menu icons don't "stick" {fixed}

I am using the Application version of the Menu launcher in SolydK-9 and have my items in a tree structure through the use of sub-menus. My overall system theme is SolydK Dark, Desktop theme is Oxygen and Icon theme is Breeze Dark. When I build my menu tree, I put icons at the sub-menu as well as the...

Many thanks Arjen - it worked. I ran update-grub as a habit before I even rebooted the machine. <G>

Re: Boot Menu missing options {solved}

Thank you, Arjen. I have a copy of memtest86+.bin that I put in the /boot/images folder - while grub-imageboot detects it, doesn't actually put it in the boot menu. So, yes, I can use some help on getting it going.

Re: Boot Menu missing options

My apologies ..... it was "grub-imageboot" that I had installed shortyly after the transition to grub2. At 76, my memory isn't the greatest especially having to rebuild from scratch and try to duplicate what I had "adjusted" over the years.

Re: Boot Menu missing options

I think we may be talking about two differnt things here. I have a "boot-isos" partition for a copy of SolydK-9 if I want to boot up in the original system. In Soldyk-8, I have an /images folder in /boot that contains an iso of my backup program and an img of spinrite - there was also a memory testi...

Re: Not having a good time with SolydK-9

I am closing this item. I FINALLY got -9 installed, but has to start from scratch. An upgrade would have been nice to do, but apparently it wasn't meant to be.

Boot Menu missing options {solved}

SolydK-8 had the capability to add .iso and .img program files to the boot menu. Has this been removed from SolydK-9? I have two files in /boot/images but they are not added to the menu when I run update-grub.

Re: Delete option on mouse menu

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!! That's exactly what I've been searching for. As soon as I saw the graphical on your posting, I recognized it immediately. What's a little confusing about it is that most of my "delete" use is on Desktop items and not in Dolphin - so I didn't associate the mouse m...

Re: Lightdm doesn't run after upgrade {closed}

Thanks. I'll go "Plan B" and put together -9 stable since my success rate at upgrading my 8-9 has been about zero and then go to EE after I get the system back to the way I like it.

Delete option on mouse menu {SOLVED}

In SolydK-9, how do you add "Delete" (replace "Trash") to the mouse right-button? Maybe it's the same way as I did it in -8, but I can't figure out how I did it then.

Re: Lightdm doesn't run after upgrade {closed}

Thanks, grizzler. Sorry, this is getting way off topic and I should be posting in testing. Last concern - I presume that it would not be a good idea to go right from my SolydK-8 stable to testing and that I should upgrade to -9 stable first or build from new.

Re: Lightdm doesn't run after upgrade

I am sorry to say that neither reinstall of lightdm nor installation of gdm resolved the problem. I have tried to do the upgrade for 8-9 far too many times and have now accepted the fact that it will probably never work. I have, of necessity, installed a new version of SolydK9 and work on the proble...
