Re: Lightdm doesn't run after upgrade

You had it right in the first instance. The SolydK9 bootup hangs because lightdm is failing to run. Output from ps -aux follows: USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 1 2.4 0.0 139436 7348 ? Ss 22:00 0:04 /lib/systemd/systemd nosplash root 2 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Lightdm doesn't run after upgrade {closed}

I have been have a terrible time trying to get this upgrade accomplished. After far too many tries, I finally got the deb9 files installed only by uninstalling all of the Nvidia files. I had to do that because whenever I got to the point where the deb9 install would start, the install always tried t...

24 Hour Clock setting in SolydK-9 {Fixed}

Anyone have any idea where the setting is to get a 24 hour clock on the Desktop? I finally found the way to get it to display UTC, but it still reads with the AM PM on the end and three digits before 1000 UTC. There was a setting in SolydK-8, but it's not there in 9. I would also prefer it to displa...

Re: Not having a good time with SolydK-9

First of all, not being able to place icons on the desktop where you want them, sounds like a bug. Perhaps I wasn't clear on that. The size of the icons prevented me from placing ten in a column like I could before. Locating icons around the Desktop didn't seem to be a problem. the team tried to de...

Not having a good time with SolydK-9 {closed}

I've been a strong supporter of SolydK since I started when SolydK first came about. But this transition from SolydK-8 to 9 started out bad and it's not getting any better. When I find a specific item that I can't resolve, then I'll post a note about it - this note is just concerning general observa...

Re: Failure messages at boot up

As I noted, in the first error message, I found that in addition to the 'nf_nat_pptp' module that was being loaded, modules 'etc' and 'xyz' were also being attemped to load. All three were listed in /etc/modules-load.d/netfilter.conf file. The problem that I found was that 'etc' and 'xyz' did not ex...

Failure messages at boot up {closed}

SolydK-64: I have had a failure message at startup for a couple of years and maybe longer and finally got tired of seeing it and went about trying to resolve it. In the process, I uncovered a second failure message. The first was "Failed to start Load Kernel Modules" and internet searching, help fro...

Re: Failed to start Load Kernel Modules

ilu: Yes - I initially did an internet search to start me off. I am now following where the crumbs lead me. I do have virtualbox installed, but I have not seen any messages yet that indicate a problem in that area. After my first posting, I removed "etc" and "xyz" from /etc/modules-load.d/netfilter....

Failed to start Load Kernel Modules {resolved}

SolydK-64 - For probably a number of years, I have been seeing the subject message at the start of the boot process. There has never seemed to be a problem with use of any programs. It is simply that the message is .... annoying. But in the event that a future major problem can develop, I should get...

Re: Excessive updates withheld

I just received a notification from Updatemanager. I ran the update and it appears to my best recollection, an update that I had run before the "update withheld" notation. The update appears to have run normally with no indication of "261 updates withheld" anywhere. Output follows : [3;J Reading pac...

[Solved] Excessive updates withheld

I first posted: SolydK-64 .... last couple of update notifications, it downloaded the repository links, said 0 everything except for 261 not upgraded and then said I was up to date. Is there some reason why updates are being withheld? ilu responded: Usually this happens when the Updatemanager update...

Re: Can't login to new install on SolydK-64

Thanks Schoelje. I am making note of those steps and the next time that my daughter visits, I will try it. That will give us a starting point. I will also post immediately, if problems remain and we can further troubleshoot.

Re: Can't login to new install on SolydK-64

I used the same username and password as was/is used on the old system. As I mentioned earlier, I have done this a number of times before without any problem. Unfortunately, I can only "take notes" on what to try the next time my daughter comes into town .... may be this summer or next year. The onl...

Re: Can't login to new install on SolydK-64

I probably did check MD5 on the 201512 download - that was some time ago. The 201601 download, I used the new GPG verification - and it indicated good. I used the existing home directory in all cases as I wanted to retain the data. When home was embedded in root, I didn't format root on install. Whe...

Re: Can't login to new install on SolydK-64

Yes, I agree, there can always be a "hiccup" on an install and that's likely what happened in your case. But this was five or six attempted installs with two versions of SolydK. Just a little frustrating to say the least. I really wish I had more details on it, but I don't.

Can't login to new install on SolydK-64

My daughter was visiting for Easter break and while she was here, I wanted to change her HP ProBook 6550b from Ubuntu to SolydK. I first tried to install v64-201512 on the laptop with home in a separate partition from root (I separated the two - her original was combined) and on bootup, the login sc...

Re: Pale Moon & Fossa Mail

Schoelje - understood. The question was worth a shot. Ilu - I have seen some of the comments, though I don't agree with them. I haven't tried asking Debian, but I suspect it's an act of futility. There are Debian distros that have the programs, but they are in their own repo. MAYBL8 - Pale Moon inst...

Any chance of these being added to the Solyd repository?
