Re: Updatemanager gone

For Zill: I used both variations .... sudo and non-sudo and got the same results for the problem. I just happened to post the copy with sudo invoked. For Schoelje: Thanks for the quick response. I immediately installed gir1.2-vte-2.91 and got updatemanager running again. The four icon sets then down...

Re: Updatemanager gone

When I run updatemanager in konsole, I get the following: jim@jim ~ $ sudo updatemanager We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System Administrator. It usually boils down to these three things: #1) Respect the privacy of others. #2) Think before you type. #3) With great power c...

Updatemanager gone [fixed]

I just ran the update for 2.7.2 to 2.7.3 and after installation, it was gone. I am left with a faint icon (broken circle with down arrow) on the panel and the icon in the menu is now what looks like a faint button ewith three horizontal holes). When I right-click on the panel icon, I can go to prefe...

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

For RavenLX .... my Places were intact. I never used any features selected by month, etc, so that I can't speak to. I played around with kbuildsycoca4 and the parseLayoutNode fault. As it turns out, the menu spec file is in /etc/xdg/menus and if the spec file is corrected to eliminate the fault by r...

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

Actually, I think it was when I rebooted after changing back to solydk-adjustments that the menus came back. Since then, I've run the cache rebuild and it indicated some .desktop files with errors and the menu spec file errors. The .desktop files were easy to correct. kbuildsycoca4 never really indi...

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

I will also be very interested to see how that works out. If memory serves, it was no more than a couple of months ago when I first saw the SolydX logo on the grub bootup screen. BTW - with kbuildsycoca4, I'm getting a parseLayoutNode fault in the menu spec file. Where is the file located? The file ...

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

That took care of the problem. The update for ddm ran fine without loss of menu. I still have no idea how solydx-system-adjustments got in there since I have been using the KDE version since day one. But at least it can be fixed.

Many thanks Schoelje and RavenLX.

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

That may explain what happened here. I have not ever dropped the adjustments and somewhere along the line, solydx adjustments were installed replacing the solydk adjustments. I did try to swap them using Software Manager, and the menu was gone. So I'll try via Synaptic. I'll take that bit of info an...

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

Only problem with blacklisting is that the indicator ALWAYS shows an update available when there is a blacklisted item even though there is no "other" update. I tried a few other things - it takes a while because I am always restoring my drive when it fails and doing a backup when something works. T...

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

Additional info: The applications.menu files for /home/jim/.config/menus/ and /etc/xdg/menus/ are correct and complete as far as I can tell. But the link to the Application Launcher Menu is apparently gone. I did install a wine-staging update from repos.fds-team.de via the Update Manager and there w...

Re: Menus all gone! Installed solydx-adjustments on solydk

I just ran the update of ddm 2.1.5 to 2.1.7 on SolydK-64 and menus are similarly gone. The ddm update was the only item installed.

Re: [Fixed] What happened to boot-isos?

As I suspected, there is no need to make sure boot-isos is the first directory of the partition. The only thing that you cannot do is have it below that level in a sub-directory. A thought last night - the script is now dependent on parted being installed. If parted is removed, grub-update will halt...

Re: What happened to boot-isos?

Works fine, Arjen. Got a little "scared" when the screen was quiet until the splash screen, but it started, ran programs and exited just like it should. BTW - I find that add-on of yours very useful to try out programs and settings on SolydK without screwing up my regular system. Many thanks to Fran...

Re: What happened to boot-isos?

I just tried it and I get error:

/etc/solydxk/grub/boot-isos.sh: line 81: warning: here-document at line 40 delimited by end-of-file (wanted `EOT')
/etc/solydxk/grub/boot-isos.sh: line 82: syntax error: unexpected end of file

Re: What happened to boot-isos?

Unless I'm missing something in the conversations, I don't see the drive designations as being an issue. My SDD is actually /dev/sdb (hd1) and my harddrive with WinXP is /dev/sda (hd0).

Re: What happened to boot-isos?

It is still not working. I had a chance today to set up a new partition on the SDD and I ran update-grub with both mounted and unmounted drive - the line in grub.cfg looks the same in either case, but the iso does not run - same errors. jim@jim ~ $ ls -l /home/jim/ISO total 4 drwxr-xr-x 2 jim jim 40...

Re: What happened to boot-isos?

I thought that it was the first directory - I believe I put the directory on the drive before adding all the other stuff. Could be wrong - memory isn't what it used to be. But grub-update is finding it .... it's listed at the end of grub.d/10_linux in grub.cfg and from the script, it looks like it s...

Re: What happened to boot-isos?

Sorry, Grizzler - didn't get any trigger message that there was a response to my last note. Not sure what you mean by "listing of the partition/directory". It is the Temp partition that has other files/directories for a project that I'll be working on next week. FSTAB entry is: # /dev/sda7 UUID=bd8d...

Re: What happened to boot-isos?

No - this was not a grub repair issue. This was placing a Solydxk iso distro file in a subdirectory entitled boot-isos. On grub-update, a line item is placed in the Advanced Options of the grub boot menu for "Live SolydK.iso". Selecting that item would boot into the Live "disk". It used to work, but...
