Neither Sysinfo nor Hardinfo show STORAGE info

In my Solydx64 installations neither Sysinfo nor Hardinfo show any data at all under the Storage section. What could be the problem with this? Obviously I have a hard drive which shows up in various command line utilities such as df or inxi-F .... But in Sysinfo and hardinfo these sections are blank...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

To Illustrate my stupidity, I have to first apologize and say that I now recognize that I am (presumably) running Solydx64 HOME rather than "Business Edition" to which this thread is dedicated. (I am still a little unsure but I gather that is what "Production" means.) At any rate I wanted to report ...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

Thanks for the advice to check my sources.list -- I see I have inconsistent settings. On a few of my machines they are: deb http://packages.solydxk.nl/production/ solydxk main upstream import kdenext deb http://debian.solydxk.nl/production testing main contrib non-free deb http://debian.solydxk.nl/p...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

Did anyone figure out from the post above why VLC is missing after the update? http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4853&p=45879&hilit=VLC#p45879 I just noticed I've lost VLC too and can't seem to get software manager to let me reinstall it. When I navigate to it and double-click on it in s...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

Thanks for your help on the loss of my kde programs from Solydx! Here are the outputs you requested: cat /var/log/apt/history.log | grep Remove cat /var/log/apt/history.log | grep Remove Remove: dropbox:amd64 (1.6.0) Remove: virtualbox:amd64 (4.3.12-dfsg-1), virtualbox-dkms:amd64 (4.3.12-dfsg-1), vi...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

Perhaps this was never a good idea in the first place, but in my Solydx installation I had installed Dolphin to use for file work. All seemed to work and co-exist fine. This update on most (but not all) of my machines has resulted in all the kde programs being removed. One or two machines seem to be...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

I did all my machines from terminal - the ones that show the proper date and the ones that don't. I do get four zeros, on ALL my computers, as you indicate after running apt dist-upgrade. So perhaps I am ok (?) In case it helps (cause I am still worried about the 2014.7.15 date showing) here is the ...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

I continue to make progress and have about 3 of 5 machines (solydx 64) upgraded. I can't figure out one thing still -- On several of my machines I am running through the entire command-line upgrade process, and I don't get any errors that I can see, but at the end of the day, when I reboot and start...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

Still working through my previous problems, but now on the one machine that did seem to go correctly, the wireless network manager applet has disappeared. Can you help getting it back? Unlike Megamin above I am running SoldyX - 64 bit version. Thanks! Edit - solved that by going to synaptic and inst...

Re: UP 2014.10.15

I have four machines (Solydx 64) that are all stuck on: Processing triggers for menu (2.1.47) ... Any suggestions? Is it still running and I just need to wait, or is this is known problem? Thanks! Edit: I see that my one machine that is proceeding says it is Version 2.4.3, while all the others, whic...

Recent problems with CIFS / Samba with shared database

Until recently I had successfully been using several Crossover/wine programs on my Solydx machines to access my network server, which is also running Solydx. These programs (Timeslips and Ecco) both access shared databases on the server. I know these were running, and quite well. Sometime in the las...

Re: SAMBA Question

Just in case my angst helps someone else, let me post what I think I have decided to do. I did not realize that my router would allow me to "hard map" IP addresses to particular MAC addresses. I hope that means that in future power failures and power cycles, then the same IP will be restored to each...

Re: SAMBA Question

It seems clear to me after further work that I simply cannot resolve any computer name using DNS. I can ping IP addresses all day long, but when I use the associated name I get nothing but cannot resolve. I have no clue how to get that working. Any suggestions? I might as well post my stream of cons...

Re: SAMBA Question

It SOUNDS logical, but I am still running into a problem. I am not able to get my solydx system to ping or "see" the other computer I am trying to mount I can ping it by IP address, but I can't ping by the "name" that is assigned to it on the network. I've been fiddling with these settings and still...

SAMBA Question

I come to SolydX from a background with PCLINUXOS. I am having a devil of a time getting my samba setup to resolve my other computers (some of them windows) in my office. Earlier this year I saw a post on the PCLINUX forum which said this: Quick background on me, Linux hobbyist, burned out programme...

[SOLVED] Re: Network Manager Applet Disappeared

Thank you! I installed network-manager-gnome using synaptic and my icon is back. Apparently something stupid I did, but I can't remember what. Anyway all is well that ends well so thank you!

Sorry - it looks like I tried the wrong command: :~$ ps -eaf | grep nm-applet 18566 18468 0 20:35 pts/0 00:00:00 grep --colour=auto nm-applet ~$ also: ps -eaf | grep NetworkManager | grep -v NetworkManagerDispatcherroot 3612 1 0 Jul06 ? 00:00:07 /usr/sbin/NetworkManager root 17991 3612 0 20:25 ? 00:...

Re: Network Manager Applet Disappeared

Wow. Running the first command produces NO result. (And checking in LXTASK to look for it shows nothing either. Running nm-applet from the terminal says ~$ ps -A |grep applet ~$ nm-applet bash: nm-applet: command not found and it does not seem possible to apt-get install nm-applet. What should I try...

Re: Network Manager Applet Disappeared

Here's my output from that. Thanks for any suggestions! I should add that I am posting from this machine wirelessly now, but the applet remains gone. Gee I did not realize this had a 2005 CPU. Almost ten years old, but I hate to throw it out quite yet. System: Host: emachine Kernel: 3.14-1-amd64 x86...

Network Manager Applet Disappeared

Today for some reason I cannot figure my Network Manager applet disappeared. I am connected to my wireless so that's OK, but the Icon that would let me choose other networks has disappeared. The other icons SEEM to be OK - the update manager appears and sound -- but the network manager is mysterious...
