GRUB install /dev/sda1 by mistake... How to recover Windows

Hello, MISTAKE: When installing SolydX in another laptop... I made a mistake, specifying to install GRUB at /dev/sda1 where Microsoft Windows lives  . My original intention wasn't to specify the standard /dev/sda (MBR) but /dev/sda6 , the partition for SolydX, to leave original booting untouc...

Re: 3rd install attempt, password not recognized

just another shot in the dark: WHITE SPACES (for example, at the end of you supposed password) Explanation : It's common practice to 'double click' a word to copy&paste. Then Murphy visits you including the right-side invisible character following that word (commonly a whitespace but could be a CR/L...

Re: SolydC - How to add Cinnamon 2.0 to SolydXK

Cinnamon is eye candy but I am beginning to stop loving it: I must admit it tends to attract bugs or incompatibilities with "other" applications or packages, not easy to assess or troubleshoot. I won't expect a lasting / stable personalized desktop configuration; it will likely break at some future ...

Re: Trouble installing SolydX-64 in UEFI-mode

So far, so good. SolydX works perfectly under GPT/UEFI environment, update included, of course. Moreover, making "booting backup" of this GPT/UEFI thing is easier to manage than legacy MBR/BIOS (e.g. copying entire ESP partition to a replica in USB where rEFInd tool is included; handy). Difficulty i...

SHORTER Step by Step installing SolydX-64 in UEFI-mode

Looking back... the keypoints would be reduced to this short list ;-) = a) Get REFIND , a tool to boot an OS when this OS can't boot by itself b) When SolydX is in Live mode, ensure it's in EFI mode c) Install SolydX in HD and reboot your new SolydX (in HD) ...thru REFIND d) Verify you see folders u...

STEP by STEP installing SolydX-64 in UEFI-mode

[SOLVED in my case] Below you will find a "step by step" list of what I did to install SolydX-64 (2014/05) in a laptop (Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720) with pre-installed MS Windows 8; both OSs dual booting in "UEFI" mode. I've enumerated the list for easier understanding of the whole idea. I'm NOT an ex...

Re: Trouble installing SolydX-64 in UEFI-mode

Hello everybody, I've been reading this wonderful thread among others in this forum and lots of pages about EFI, GPT, ESP, refind, rufus, debian, fedora, etc, etc to understand what is behind this and being able to install SolydX in "EFI mode". I'm happy to say I've been able to create a successful ...

INTERESTING: [Solved] [Another story] "cups" (printing service) was failing always to start. Solution = Remove "/tmp" as being a SYMLINK to "/var/tmp". Re: Hello, from Spain

Hello again, Upon using SolydX more than a week I've seen correct behaviour, fixed other minor problems, though not specific of ths distribution (the famous case of machine RESTARTING instead of SHUTTING DOWN due to USB power/control bug). However, I'm sad to say this is not as solid as I expected :...

Hello, from Spain

Hello everybody! I'm happy having found SolydXK recently, upon searching the web 'my way' for new Linux distros. It's almost unknown in Spain, afaik. Congratulations for creating and maintaining this distro! . My wife told me the desktop was very nice and this observation is quite a compliment :) Up...
