Zill wrote:troypulk: Have you changed root's password at any time?
I changed my password about a month or so ago.

I have looked into the root password issue on my computer but from what I can tell I can't change it.

Re: Root Terminal question

@troypulk, If you enter the command in a terminal, does it produce any errors? The window just says incorrect password and try again. Mine is: ls -l gks* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 28080 Dec 5 2014 gksu lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 4 Dec 5 2014 gksudo -> gksu -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 12200 Sep 6 2014 gksu-prop...

Re: Root Terminal question

I may have broke something with out realizing it? gksu does not work even though I set xhost to Exec=xhost + I've never used gksu before so I have never noticed it except in the past clicking on root terminal in the system menu it wouldn't work so I would just open the root terminal with sudo like I...

Re: Root Terminal question

AIUI, starting any GUI application (such as Thunar) with sudo can cause problems with file ownership and permissions. For this reason, it is recommended to use the gksudo (or kdesudo) prefix, rather than sudo, to open a GUI application as root. So you're saying that the system will automatically ch...

Root Terminal question

In solydX in the menu under system it has an app for "root terminal" using gksu I tried opening it but could not but in a regular terminal I can open thunar as root using sudo. I tried opening thunar in a regular terminal using gksu thunar but it did not work either. So, is gksu defective? or since ...

Re: xiphos broken

@lilgman

In the mean time you could substitute Xiphos with Bibletime which works good but is not up to date to the latest version but will work in a pinch, it uses the same bible modules as well.

Re: Phinx Desktop

Thanks for filling in the details, MR. B, like Paul Harvey used to say, now we know "the rest of the story." I still keep an eye on the PCLinux forum. IKA's community xfce has recently been updated as well as Mignon http://mignon.mypclinuxos.com another xfce spin. I take a look at Xfce distros when...

Re: Phinx Desktop

Thanks for the info,

Yes, I am aware of his issues for closing down Phinx and I'm wondering if he will ever resurrect Phinx.

Thats why I asked if anyone here has heard of a Distro like this one before.

H.264 didn't work for me until I installed gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and various other files which I come to learn that debian doesn't support, I had to get it from deb-multimedia.org All I enabled in Palemoon was media.gstreamer.enabled Just installing x264 didn't work. WebM VP8 and HTMLVideoElement alr...

you'll need a strong encryption to protect your files.
Thanks,

Would this work for the root password as well not just the user?

Is there anything I can do to prevent a person from getting in to my solydX system if it gets stolen?

Can they get past my password?

Phinx Desktop

Does anyone know about this Linux Distro? The web site was http://phinxrising.blogspot.com/ he lives in the UK. I used it for about 6 months before he went through some hard times and quit, I really liked it because He created it with Xfce4 and Gtk3 with no Qt because it was too heavy, this was befo...

Re: Old Business and Home repositories removed

You can leave out the community repository for SolydK, and SolydX if you don't need it. I still have deb http://community.solydxk.nl/production/ solydxk main in my sources.list file. I'm not sure if I need this or not, what's the CLI or list to find out what files are in the community and / or what...
