Re: Have to buy a new keyboard

I know have this keyboard: IMG_20151023_154952.jpg As you can see some of the keys have no text anymore, or just half. The nice things about this keyboard are: the large amount of extra keys, the scrollwheel, the media buttons on top, the location of "Home, End, Page Up, Page Down, Insert and Delete...

In installed it on 30 September, so it is not that long ago. Well thank you Grizzler, but I just leave it as it is now, don't want to destroy a good setup.

Re: [SOLVED] Default program to open .mp4 file

This means I installed something which needs wine to be able to run. I have no idea what that might be.

Re: [SOLVED] Default program to open .mp4 file

In my SolydX VM I see that wine is not installed.
Is wine installed by default in SolydK or did I do something which needs (needed) wine? I can't imagine I installed something which needs wine. I always try to find original Linux programs to do the job, rather than to fallback on Windows versions.

Re: [SOLVED] Default program to open .mp4 file

To be honest I am a bit afraid to do that on my main system. Will make a copy of a virtual machine and do it in there.
Don't like to have to install a lot (or maybe the whole system) just to get rid of wine.

When I try to uninstall Wine in the software manager I see this: Impact on packages: libdb5.3:i386 (installed), libedit2:i386 (installed), libjack-jackd2-0:i386 (installed), libavresample2:i386 (installed), libtinfo5:i386 (installed), libsasl2-modules-db:i386 (installed), libxcb-dri2-0:i386 (install...

Re: Default program to open .mp4 file

my ~/.config/application contain a file symlinked to ~/.local/share/application/mimeapps.list. once, my conf file was messed up by wine and I was forced to reset the configuration. upon reboot new file was created on that directory so perhaps it's wine's doing. I don't use wine at all. But I just s...

Re: Default program to open .mp4 file

Good morning Frank, I only have the file ~/.local/share/applications/mimeapps.list, NOT the ~/.config/mimeapps.list. Last night I changed the settings in KDE settings --> File associations where I deleted VLC as application to start an mp4 file. I still see several lines with .mp4 and vlc in the mim...

I even set the file connection in KDE settings, still it is not remembered. Post by Schoelje » 17 Oct 2015 20:28 Search for the "File Associations" application. I did that already Schoelje, but the setting is not remembered. As soon as I start antoher mp4 file, it is started with VLC instead of smp...

[SOLVED] Default program to open .mp4 file

Hi, In my SolydK I have installed both VLC and smplayer. Now VLC is set as the default program to open an .mp4 file when I click it. I want it to be smplayer. So what do I do: I right-click on the movie file, choose open with, select other. Then in the next list of installed programs I select smplay...

Thanks. Then I will have a look to find me a nice one.

Have to buy a new keyboard

Hi all, After many, many years of operation I need a new keyboard. I now use a Sweex KX7201 keyboard with a lot of extras like internet buttons (back, forward, stop, refresh, search, my favorites, home, email), mediaplayer buttons, office buttons (cut, copy, paste, mark), extra buttons to start prog...

Re: Music player in Dolphin

Okay, well I found it.
In KDE settings --> Multimedia --> Audio and Video Settings --> Backend I had to choose the VLC backend above the Gstreamer backend. (see attached picture)

Now it works as it always worked.

[SOLVED] Music player in Dolphin

Hi, In Dolphin I can switch on the Information Panel with F11. When I do that and I hover the mouse over an MP3 file, I see info about that file in the panel, together with a Play button and a progress bar. Now In previous distro's I used (LinuxMint-KDE-64) I could press Play and listen to the sound...

Re: BACKUP - Clone partitions w/ Gparted - Sync w/ Lucky Bac

It's a little long winded in parts but I wanted to paint a clear picture and stress the most important points. Long winded is good. Don't worry about that. I feel tutorials are made for people who are not so familiar with computers and software and they need explanations. Experts will not read and ...

Re: Testers needed: new Live Installer

@Schoelje, I installed both SolydX and SolydK on 2 disks, both with encrypted / and /home partitions. I understand from your answer that this is not possible since the OS prober does not recognize encrypted systems. So it is either double boot without encryption, or single boot with/without encrypti...

Re: Testers needed: new Live Installer

I must be doing something wrong here. After installation of the second OS (with encrypted / and /home partitions) I tried to boot and in Grub I only see the second OS. In the filemanager I opened some disks belonging to the first OS (had to type passwords for both partitions). I also saw the CD list...

Re: Testers needed: new Live Installer

So, back home again. Yes, it is possible for me to log in to the installed OS (SolydK). I still have a question about the encryption password however: During install I marked both / and /home as encrypted partitions, each with a password. Now in my case it was the same password. During booting I was...

Hello Schoelje, Thank you for putting the new ISO's on line. I did Test 3 again with both / and /home encrypted.
