Re: Zeitgeist

I uninstalled it, everything I could find with name Zeitgeist in it, like Grizzler also wrote. Not one uninstall told me this or that package will be removed as well, so I guess it is pretty safe to do so.

Zeitgeist

Hi, I found out that SolydXK uses Zeitgeist. I find that strange since it is something Ubuntu started using because of their Unity interface. Since SolydXK is not based on Ubuntu but straight on Debian why do we have it here? I read info about Zeitgeist on the internet and although people are trying...

Re: Rotated wallpaper

...totally misunderstood that one... Now that I read my story again I think I did not write it as clear as I should have. When I open the picture the viewer shows me a nice vertical image, just as when I shot it. Only, the KDE program responsible for showing the picture as wallpaper does not ...

Install SolydXK on RAID 0

In this tutorial I will explain how to install the operating system (OS) on RAID disks. In my example I use RAID 0, which officially is not a RAID because it offers no data security whatsoever should a disk crash. This is caused by having no Redundant Data at all which is needed to give the security...

Rotated wallpaper

Hello all, This summer I made a lot of pictures during our holiday trip and I have setup a folder as slideshow for my desktop. The pictures show one by one, 10 seconds each. Only, the ones I made when holding the camera vertical, like with a waterfall, are now shown horizontally. When opening the pi...

Re: Got a new ASUS but having trouble with the LiveUSB

Hi, just found your thread and saw that also in the Ubuntu forums they spoke about this chip.
Would it be an idea, just to try, to make a live USB stick from one of the latest Ubuntu releases? Just to see if Linux (in this case Ubuntu) can handle the chip?

It just hit me

Schoelje, it just hit me today at work. I was thinking about the home computer when suddenly I remembered your answer to my installation thread. http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5890 You write: As I'm the only developer at the moment What does this mean for the future of SolydXK? Are th...

Re: I'm back....

Thank Zill, It's great to be welcomed like this. You are talking about New Holland, quite something else than Holland, isn't it? Here we have Amsterdam, the capitol of The Netherlands but we also have New Amsterdam, a small village in the east part of the country. Even New York was once New Amsterda...

Re: New installer is great

I'm happy you like the installer, but the credits largely goes to the upstream developers. I only adapt some of the parts to make it fit with SolydXK's configuration. As I'm the only developer at the moment, I can only pick up changes that have an impact on as many users as possible. A raid configu...

Re: I'm back....

Could you also explain the readers what's the difference between "The Netherlands" and "Holland" because for most people, even in The Netherlands, they are synonymous. Well, as I see it, Holland refers to the two provinces on the west coast of the country, North- and South Holland. Back in the earl...

I'm back....

Now please, don't take the title the wrong way, it is just may way of saying I installed SolydK again and am using it. I did use it some years ago but decided to use LinuxMint instead. Since lately I am experimenting with all sorts of OS's in virtual machines and this morning I installed SolydK and ...

New installer is great

Hi, After having used SolydK some years ago I now installed it again, this time in a virtual machine. My objections in the past were that the installer was too simple, it was impossible to put parts of the OS (like /home) onto a different drive cause the installer only knew one drive. Yes, it was po...

Re: Amarok Problems

When you are a true fan of Amarok then my solution is not for you. What I always do when I install a new distro is to immediately un-install Amarok, since I simply can't work with that program. The so called "intuitive" GUI is a mystery to me. I use Clementine, a program based on Amarok, but with a ...

Re: The future of SolydXK

Hello Fargo, I did get how things will be. I just wondered about the one line Schoelje wrote that the EE will be not as stable as the rolling release we have now. Then what is the use for the EE version/ Who wants a system which might crash often? What will be done with the info about the crashes? W...

Re: The future of SolydXK

Schoelje wrote in his opening statement: The rolling editions may turn out to be far less stable than the old Home Editions were meant to be, so staying with the new rolling repositories should be a conscious decision. When bugs are found in this release will they somehow be corrected and used in th...
