Re: Reporting some issues with the EE version

I never use kde but based on your previous post I'd say that's normal. chrome is known as resource eater. he'll use lot of memories. I don't know about the plasmashell since I'm on the X side. you mentioned that you have 16 gb mem so IMO it's not an issue. 3/16 doesn't really means anything as long...

Re: Reporting some issues with the EE version

Anyone an idea why I am using more than 3GB of memory at the moment while using:
Google-Chrome, Davmail, Kontact and Spotify?
It's way too much, right?

Re: Reporting some issues with the EE version

Just noticed that both Plasmashell and a small program called davmail (connector between email program and Exchange server) use a lot of memory. Much more than usual. I have seen scores of around 500MB for the total OS, now only Plasmashell uses this much, while Davmail uses 1.2% of my 16GB.. It is ...

Re: How about a SolydM?

Aah, the memories of the good old days.
Happy that you did that back then? Must have been a lot of work to make it all possible, to start it but also to keep it alive.
Is it time for your memoirs already so we can all read what happened, how it started, who helped, etc. Must be a great book.

Re: How about a SolydM?

it exists already, it is called LMDE-Mate. Hi SFE. LMDE is no way near as polished as the Solyd distros. The Ubuntu-based Linux Mint releases seem to get far more attention unfortunately. Cool username BTW. ;-) Agree completely. But for me, as a true KDE lover, every distro with another desktop is ...

Re: minidlna

it's a daemon for multimedia stuff so that your computer could be paired with multimedia devices with dlna feature. it's actually quite a cool feature related with multimedia broadcasting and home entertainment. though, you'll need devices with dlna feature to use it. if you didn't have those devic...

minidlna

Hi all, just looked at the system monitor to see why the fan in my computer is spinning so fast, what program caused it and I saw that it was mainly Chrome with a lot of tabs open. But I also saw something else: a program named minidlnad, started by user minidlna. I googled it but am not quite sure ...

Nvidia and tearing in Chrome

Hi, I had (yes HAD) screentearing when using Google-chrome so I started looking for a solution. I found a page on the chrome forum where somebody wrote that a possible cure is to start a new profile. I did that and it worked. At the moment I am watching Apollo 13 on the National Geographic channel w...

Re: Thoughts about Bleachbit

ilu is more or less like me who prefer another way than blocking bleachbit. we do agree that we should help user but we think blocking bleachbit is not a good way to do it. there are several another way. for an example, we can choose educational stuff, like creating a banner the put it on the site....

Re: Thoughts about Bleachbit

I don't think it's necessary to start radical measures. I can't see rising numbers of people on this forum having problems with bleachbit. I wouldn't encourage its use, obviously. As I already said in another thread https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=72&t=6453&p=61601&hilit=bleachbit&#p6160...

Re: Thoughts about Bleachbit

I haven't tested it yet but if the proposed method works, then there's no harm to block it to protect the user. if the team agree, perhaps we should do that. though, somehow personally I hate this idea. You hate to do this cause you hate to take away people's own choice of doing things? But when yo...

Thoughts about Bleachbit

I am a frequent user on the LinuxMint forum and pretty often somebody writes he has used Bleachbit to clean his computer and now things don't work anymore, or they miss a large piece of there harddrive. Just to make sure I have absolutely no intention of starting to use it. Is it really necessary to...

Re: How do I share files between 2 solydk computers

Turns out the firewall is not the issue either. I can view the file is there, but I can't get LibreOffice to open the smb file. ...This is rediculous. Is this KDE thing or a Linux thing that this is so difficult. I'd be happy to give up security for a little convenience here. How are you connected ...

Re: How do I share files between 2 solydk computers

Is your head still okay, or do you need a doctor? Sharing files over the network can be done in different ways. When both computers are constantly on, you could add a line in your fstab mounting a drive in the other computer to this one, and vice versa. Problem is, when one is switched off, the moun...

grizzler wrote:Yes, updating/upgrading should be enough most of the time. However, sometimes configuration files make a difference and these aren't always replaced when you upgrade. That's why tests with new ISOs are preferable. They can produce different results.
Okay, thank you for this explanation.

Re: Reporting some issues with the EE version

There will probably be a new set of ISOs later this month. The 'testing team' can have a go with them then. To get the same situation on my working installation as when installing this new ISO which will be released soon, is simply updating enough or do I really need to install this new ISO? At the...

Re: Reporting some issues with the EE version

Check the bug tracker and/or the "Issues" and "Breakages" threads for known issues. If there aren't any, make sure the issues are reproducible on other systems, with the most recent ISO. There will probably be a new set of ISOs later this month. The 'testing team' can have a go with them then. I'll...

Re: Reporting some issues with the EE version

Have a wonderful SolydK-EE installation now, with just a few small hickups: 1) When the update-manager is ready updating the updates, a small window appears with the text: Your system is up-to-date and a OK button. I always have to click twice on that button. The first time the window disappears but...
