A more coherent reply tracking the 'bug'. martin@linux ~ $ ddm -d INFO Write debug information to file: /home/martin/ddm.log INFO Machine info: Linux version 3.2.0-4-amd64 (debian-kernel@lists.debian.org) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Debian 4.6.3-14) ) #1 SMP Debian 3.2.51-1 INFO DDM version: 0.9.2 INFO Used...

Re: Financial independence of SolydXK

A supported LTS, if paid for, will need some form of guarantee that it will work. That is what you are expecting payment for.

How much will you charge me - a one man band?

Re: SolydK LTS (Long Term Support)

I wish to encourage the new BusinessEdition as a concept but wonder how the long term support will be acheived. One way to acheive it is to let the cobwebs grow and do nothing if it does not break - I don't think that is wanted. Another way is the rolling release concept and you have that already - ...

Re: Updates and Parcelling Philosophy.

'machines a little old' That is a superb description of 76 year old me! You may not have had english lessons at school but you certainly are a master. My school teaching of French started with learning French vocabulary and the grammar of the 'correct' writing of French. That went on right up to the...

Re: Updates and Parcelling Philosophy.

The proposed business edition seems to be an improvement on Standard Solydk.
I will try it and see how it goes for me.

Re: Updates and Parcelling Philosophy.

Sorry lost the plot. kyodev, Thanks for your input - your English is a lot better than my French! The ./ Mb in my machine are currently; /solydx 8.5G /mintlmde 6.3G /debian7(start) .33G As you say a lot of the updates are consequential as many updates cause updates elsewhere. Likewise keeping 100% u...

Re: Updates and Parcelling Philosophy.

Your reference, which produced,' "[SOLVED] SolydXK Installation on a Dell Precision 370" was apparently about difficulties with a Solydx installation. My proposal will take standard .deb packages from Debian as far as possible to produce a minimal system by stages. The first stage is probably the De...

Re: Updates and Parcelling Philosophy.

I have uploaded Debian 7 (Network edition) and I am hoping to use this as the start of a minimal build. (173 packages ) I intend to use LinuxfromScratch 'BLFS' as a guide to building and see what can be done for a minimal build. If any of you are mug enough to want to join a dyslexic old fart in thi...

Re: Updates and Parcelling Philosophy.

Yes I am looking at Debian.
For the humble user it is difficult to understand why an update needs to be so large.

Updates and Parcelling Philosophy.

Many of us use the distribution for a few tasks only and the majority of the programmes included in the distribution are never used. Some of the programmes used are 'self supporting' that is they do not rely on libraries etc that are not directly part of the programme. For instance Libre Office, Thu...

Schoelje

Steam is reluctant to load. Complains about not having a 32 bit file.
The display looks fine and appears to be stable.

Re: UP 2013.09.06 06:00 UTC [PRODUCTION]

It appears that after installation with synaptic the drivers are installed.
Are there any checks which I can carry out to establish that they are performing correctly.

Re: UP 2013.09.06 06:00 UTC [PRODUCTION]

I have a 64 bit MintBox with an ATI card. First try, straight into grahics drivers after start up on the harddisk - very slow to load - restart removed all graphics! Have reloaded and transferred to HDD, loaded outstanding updates, including dmm, and am now going away to make an image. When I get ba...

Thank you for your courteous reply. I am afraid that the only asset that I can offer to the testing gang is a prize plonker. If you want to find out if it is idiot proof I am your man. Thanks again I will be patient and stick to production. As a matter of interest I have put it into a computer and t...

Re: UP - 31/08/2013 12:00 UTC [TESTING]

I am totally confused!

Please send a copy of the /etc/apt/sources list which will give me an update of the testing rolling release.

It may be prudent to have a 'sticky' of the correct current sources lists to which everybody may turn in the hour of need.
