Re: Launch Application

Ilu - your reference is for SolydX. But is there any significance in the name of the application? Is Thunderbird the same as Mozilla-Thunderbird? Whereabouts in System Settings are all of the relevant associations to applications located in KDE? Zill - appended is the print out asked for; martin@lin...

[Solved]Launch Application

Thunderbird to the best of my knowledge has only been changed by the 'Update Manager'. If you select a url contained in an incoming message or select 'Help' you get a message saying "Launch Application". I assume that the answer should be 'Firefox' - wrong. If you select the 'Choose' displayed in th...

Re: How long is support for packages?

An uninformed reply. By packages I assume tha you mean the bits and pieces that you add to the system like kmymoney or Knoda4. Kmymoney has a large and active software community so it will be maintained for a long time. Knoda4 originated from a gentleman called Horst Knorr who used to maintain it un...

Re: fstab configuration breaks clamav updates

Schoelje thank you for fixing the system. I fixed my system by erasing the offending lines in /etc/fstab and I am sure that you have corrected the problem far more elegantly. I wonder how hard you have to work a solid state hard drive for the wear that you are minimising to make a difference. martin...

Re: Recursive DNS

I have been with Plus Net since before it was Plus Net. I am a force9 customer. They have provided a trustworthy service and they even used to answer the phone. When you have hiccups on your broadband the first thing they ask you to is to try another modem. They sent me one and I bought it at a reas...

Re: Firefox 43: Youtube not playing HTML5 video

The answer is yes and no. I use hdmi computers an older one with a rubbish bios that does not work gpt or uefi and an uptodate one that still has Father Christmas's fingerprints on it and does do gpt and uefi. With KDE and lmde2 select hdmi sound and they work but please don't ask why. With xfce I h...

Re: Great work

"OLD FILES"

Have you thought of finding a copy of the original code and repackaging it with the current software in your system.

It is not as daft as it sounds. ./configure, make - and here you will be notified of the alterations needed - then make install to prove it works.

Re: Donations

I used to have a PayPal account but they kept sending me messages that it had been broken in to. So it is now closed. The ultimate security safeguard. Why do they need a telephone number, why do they need a Zip code? I would expect a Company that thinks themselves internationally perfect would have ...

Re: Donations

So I tried again. Through the Bank. Yes a single European payment costs £4.00 plus exchange rate gains or losses. That will be OK. The bank's foreign exchange department says however that if I wish to transfer $ there will be a £25 fee plus £4. We have to send the cheque to America to get it changed...

Re: Adding a network Printer

My experiences, or flounderings connecting a Wireless Printer. The printer should be a freestanding wireless. Re: Donations

Recently we have been tightening up on Security and yet here we have, what in my experience is a very insecure operator, demanding personal data which could be sold on or stolen. Why?

The 'new society' is apparently demanding lies.

In desparation I removed K3b using Synaptic thinking that I would then be able to use Permissions.
No such luck! Permissions has now dissappeared completely.

Re: Firefox 43: Youtube not playing HTML5 video

Youtube does not work in January .iso s. First of all I eventually remembered that I had replaced new default files with copies of the old ones. So I have purged and reloaded; firefox-esr 38.6.0esr firefox-esr-solydxk-adjustments 38.60esr firefox-esr-I10n-en-gb. from; deb http://repository.solydxk.c...

Re: mysql 5.5 5.5.47-0+deb8u1

So a standard .iso installation no longer supports mysql or presumably dependents like akondi. Seems a funny sort of progress. My machines all use SSD drives and certainly lmde2 does not have that code in /etc/fstb and it appears to perform normally. Indeed my oldest SSD had al least two Solydxk.iso...
