Re: The future of SolydXK

SolydXK works 100% today for what is needed here.

I keep it as long as it is rolling and as long as I have room on the HD.
Keep it that way and work for business and home. Don't panic.

If it stays alive perfect, if it is insufficient... sorry, but that would be nature.
But don't destroy things. ;)

Re: Now they want to fork Debian?

If this article is correct, the blame for systemd lies squarely with Gnome. Blaming Debian is placing the blame in the wrong place. Its Gnome that requires systemd and all its dependencies. If you can avoid Gnome and all gnome programs you should be able to avoid systemd. http://www.vitavonni.de/bl...

Re: Now they want to fork Debian?

Linux is rather tiny in the world of desktop computing. Don't split (read: don't destroy) Linux-forces!
That's major.. nothing else.

Re: Now they want to fork Debian?

I hate to see all efforts to keep Linux small. Fleabus wrote: Straight out of MS. Yes. KDE, Gnome, MIR, Wayland-talk, Grub, Grub2, Ext3, Ext4, Btrfs, Remastersys-cut etc... Re: Update Manager will not run

I do it quite often when something is not easy to correct.

Clonezilla for the image is great when you are aquainted with it.
I use Kbackup for the shortterm backup.

And when it was supported in earlier days from time to time I made a livedvd or liveusb from a Remastersys ISO of my system.

I use it more than a month again now (after a pause of about a year) and it is a blessing to work with Solyd!!

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

Looks fine. What are you going to do with it, lizbeth?
And what about data and the persistance of it?
And how do you get an ISO of your own day-to-day system so that will be portable
if needed to other machines or partitions? :)

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

Okay. Thanks zerozero. Very important to be able to do that in a simple way for all those cd's, dvd's and usb-keys to fill with all those systems. And to be able to install. (Testing in de VM needs an ISO too...) Because this: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos ? is what it's abo...

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

They have two. Restore MBR and Redo MBR. I only use redo to make the bootloader. And then it asks to make a new MBR. One can choose which distro has the MBR, so long it belongs to a PCLOS(RPM??)-distro. But it is very possible to do it with Ubuntu- Debianlike distro's with Grub2. Never done it, but ...

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

I can do the same, but simpler with redo MBR on a livecd of PCLinuxOS (remember: my switch in the system). When I for instance replaced an OS to another partition (so not by image, that is also possible) I made with Remastersys or Mylivecd (PCLOS) etc. an ISO, wrote a disk with the bootable ISO, ins...

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

I have 6 distro's on partitions. Multiboot, switched by an old version of PCLinuxOS minime. Other version is also right. Not had any problems with MBR. No, on your system that could be true. I'm not real sure that I'm following you correctly, but If you make a backup image of, lets say a newer quad ...

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

As far as doing a full system backup or recovery, I use Redo Backup. As far as I know (I have played with it) one can't choose the partition for the partition-MBR and that is a problem with multiboot. It will destroy my MBR of a OS switching-distro unless, like in Clonezilla, this can be switched o...

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

Great!
What do you do if you want to write your current system bootable on pendrive?
I think you have to make an ISO of it and put it via Unetbootin or something like it on the pendrive.
Or do I make a mistake? :)

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

i found a program called Imagewriter in the repos . in software manager look for usb-imagewriter. it works great.! hope this helps . I'm sorry. But no. I have it here. When you like to write on a new machine with another architecture only a livecd/dvd/usb from an .ISO will do. Or an alternate file....

Re: does solydx no longer have a usb image writer for isos?

I have been using SolydXK Constructor for quite a while now to make custom ISOs. I remove packages I don't use and install the ones I do. You can modify /etc/skel for your own custom settings. I don't include my personal files and settings as i want to be able to share the ISO or the USB I make fro...

In what way would developers/packers make the ISO (so live-media) we use to install?
