Re: NSA: how easy it is to become a terrorist

Just by using Tor, you are targeted by the NSA. A few days ago I saw an article about how reading or subscribing to one of the Linux Magazines got you on the "watch list." Everyone knows we would be using Windows and not Linux unless we were "up to something". :D Isn't it exciting to live dangerous...

Re: The new Jessie

It only happens with pure Debian. I've never seen the problem with SoyldXK, Mint,Ububtu or any other distro, Debian based or otherwise. I've tried regular install, net-install and lately the expert graphical install. I always install wheezy without swap, then add it later. I've never noticed an opti...

That may be a bug. Is it reported yet?
It has been doing it ever since Wheezy, maybe before.

Re: The new Jessie

The new Jessie has moved from alpha to beta. Seems to work ok, but "Does the Debian installer go out of its way to screw up other distros? Every time I install Debian it changes the UUID of my swap partition without my permission, it does not even notify you that it is going to do it. Then when you ...

Re: Solyd vs. Mageia

Tried to take OpenSuse Factory (Xfce) for a test drive today. Don't want to argue with Claire, but the new "updated" installer; not so good. It wanted to create a bunch of partitions, I said no, just one partition for / and it could share my swap. After the install I found a run/media partition with...

Re: Solyd vs. Mageia

I recently tried the Xfce version from this, Mageia-4.1-x86_64-DVD.iso. It was ok, everything worked. If you want to try a rolling release distro based loosely on Red Hat, take a look at openSUSE Tumbleweed project. To me Mageia and openSUSE are very similar. Install openSUSE-13.1-DVD-x86_64.iso and...

Can I raise another feature request for you to drop XFCE and focus all your polishing skills on KDE alone then.

Re: Silly if not stupid question

All Debian based distros, even the Mint and Ubuntus, may have some small problems as Debian changes to Jessie. Changing from sysvinit to systemd is one example. The advantage to SolydXK is that the forum gives you a heads up to what might happen and is very quick to respond to any questions or probl...

Re: Why GNOME should be Debian jessie’s default Desktop

As a huge Xfce fan, I'm hoping that if Jessie has Xfce as the default desktop, them Xfce will get more help and development. Right now, from what I've heard, they are way understaffed. The reason I like Xfce is that I can make it do what I want. Some other desktops cause me hours of aggravation when...

This is not necessarily pretty, but it works
Can you run GrubCustomizer on the USB stick now and add a background image, change fonts and colors?

Re: What does Solyd mean, really?

+1 on the hopes that you had a pleasant vacation. With the switch to SystemMD and other changes to Debian, SolydXK is not the only distro having problems. Solyd is "Like A Rock." Keep your spirits up. Hopefully you can find a few more team members to take some of the load.

SolydXK mentioned in the Summer- "Escape Windows" Issue. SolydX 32 bit is included on the included DVD. If this has already been posted I missed it.

Re: Old long-haulers just keep rolling

Sorry Scott, I'll make it up to you later. Let me know next time you need a test dummy.

I think in the mid 70s it was just black or grey or rust colored brown. When I saw it I'd say darn! or something, cause it meant I'd just passed the truck-stop exit.

Re: Promotional Multi-boot Solydxk USB w/Utilities and Stora

Putting chain on the big truck tires was to much of a chore for me. They just stayed in the box. I did not keep track of the miles, but have been all over the 48 states, just can't remember much of it any more. Did like that big water tower that looked like an old coffee pot, on the side of the road...

Re: Promotional Multi-boot Solydxk USB w/Utilities and Stora

Solyd With Persistence tutorial! I don't see why this tutorial could not be adapted to SolydXK. http://tuxtweaks.com/2014/03/create-linux-mint-persistent-live-usb/ It uses the Linux version of UNetbootin. I made a few changes, but they may not be needed. 2 GB may be too small for the flash drive. 4 ...
