Re: Problems printing from Firefox or Thunderbird

I see that libc6 2.17 is the latest in sid: http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=libc6&searchon=all&suite=all§ion=all I was afraid of that. Didn't know where to look to check.... So, if you really want to solve this, you probably need to compile it yourself. However, libc6 is used by...we...

Re: Problems printing from Firefox or Thunderbird

I've gone through the crash logs from Seamonkey, Firefox and Thunderbird. I've also posted a bug against Seamonkey. The crash seems to be in libc-2.17.so. Checking my copy of Arch (which doesn't crash Seamonkey) I found it uses libc-2.18. So, question(s). First would it break any existing packages i...

Re: UP - 31/10/2013 [TESTING]

I applied the new update to my testing SolydX. Went through without errors. Optical device support is completely broken. I can mount a CD/DVD manually, but even ejecting the device is giving me problems: Error ejecting /media/cdrom: Command-line `eject "/media/cdrom"' exited with non-zero exit statu...

Re: Optical media not appearing on the desktop

@paul - this (http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1795&p=18262) sounds like what you are experiencing but does not appear to be a lasting solution. Oh well, I tried. Thanks. There are a couple of work around options. I've done a bit more searching - looks like an upstream bug, since there ...

Optical media not appearing on the desktop

:) Shows how often I use CD/DVD media, I guess, since I've only just noticed this. I suspect it must have been this way since the last UP, but I'm not sure. Three different systems, two running SolydX production, one SolydX testing. On any of them, I can insert a CD or DVD (doesn't matter whether it...

I hope there's somebody else.
Thanks. I'm not convinced that the HP is the problem. The fact that other applications can print to it without any problems suggests that the printer set up is ok. Trouble is, I'm not sure how to narrow the problem down.

Re: Problems printing from Firefox or Thunderbird

:( hplip doesn't help. Wasn't installed under SolydX on my laptop, but was on Ken's desktop. Still the same - any attempt to print from Thunderbird, Firefox, Seamonkey or Chrome crashes the application before the printer selection popup comes up. Any other ideas? Or any other steps I can take to nar...

Re: Cannot login to SolydX32

I just had to log out of my desktop machine (SolydX production, fully updated) and hit exactly the same problem - attempt to log in and lightdm cycles back to the the login prompt. I found I could login to a virtual console, so the user name and password was ok. Found this thread and checked all the...

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install hplip
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try it on Monday and post back. May well be the answer - I've got hplip installed in Arch.

Re: Problems printing from Firefox or Thunderbird

Right. I got back to Ken's office on Friday and was able to do a bit more testing. Starting Firefox from a terminal produces a couple of errors, but nothing at all when Firefox crashes when attempting to print a page: ken@bezza:~$ firefox (process:7655): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: asserti...

Re: Problems printing from Firefox or Thunderbird

Have you tried this: Start FF in terminal, and see what the output is when it crashes. :) I hadn't, but I have now... Interesting result. I installed the latest 64-bit SolydX for a friend (I do quite a lot of sub contract work for him). He has 4 printers set up. Two of them are directly attached to...

Problems printing from Firefox or Thunderbird

I've just hit this problem. Any attempt to print from Thunderbird or Firefox crashes the application pretty well instantly. I've also tried printing from Seamonkey (I use the Ubuntuzilla Seamonkey version - always did prefer the mail client in Seamonkey to Thunderbird) and it has the same problem. T...

Re: How to network 3 SolydK machines?

I would recomend using one of your machines as the "server" and using NFS instead of Samba since you are all Linux. The server can be any of your machines but you would most likely want to use the one with the most free hard drive space since it will be the central storage for your network. Here is...

Re: How to network 3 SolydK machines?

I use samba (see the tutorial). I also had to remember that if I ssh from 1 PC to the next, my router wants .local for the domain. -Hinto Samba has the advantage of already being installed in SolydXK, and may be simpler to use in some instances (don't know about KDE since I'm not a KDE user, but Xf...

Re: How to network 3 SolydK machines?

Thanks Paul. You're welcome. Sorry to be slow replying - ended up with an urgent repair job I'm using DCHP provided by router which identifies the individual machines. ifconfig gives me the same information. I'd forgotten that I've got a couple of android phones and a printer hooked into the system...

Re: Disk confusion

Thank your for your profound explanation. i will fix the fstab labels. I wasn't aware that you can still do this stuff without using the UUIDs (there was nothing like that when I started my first Linux experience about 15 years ago). I will think about which way to go. UUIDs came in fairly recently...

Re: Disk confusion

The reason things still work is that /etc/fstab is using UUIDs to identify the active partitions: # /dev/sdb2 UUID=92fae429-32f0-4564-855d-4640b861209f / ext4 rw,errors=remount-ro 0 1 In this instance, the # /dev/sdb2 is not active in fstab, it simply provides a human-understandable identifier for t...

Re: How to network 3 SolydK machines?

It's been years since I've tried to network my home computers, relying on usb storage to move files around instead. I've used USB storage of one sort or anther when necessary, but it is a bit of a pain. Not to mention the pain involved in fixing file ownership and permissions if the usb device does...

Re: odd warning on shutdown/restart

Odd. I've got two SolydX installs on my laptop (one pointing at testing, the other a production install). The error occurs on the testing install every time it shuts down. I've also just installed SolydX to an HP Proliant Microserver (start of a project to use SolydX as a server). I installed, then ...
