odd warning on shutdown/restart

I've got several SolydX installations now. On two of them (one of which is pointing at the testing repos), I see a warning message when I shut down or restart the machine (sorry, this is from memory, so it may not be exact): Warning invoke smb-rc reload called during shutdown Doesn't seem to be caus...

Re: UP - 29/09/2013 [TESTING]

Upgraded this afternoon using UM. No problems so far. UM behaved itself, and everything seems to be working post upgrade.

Re: What can be used instead of gtksu

Haven't tried this, but, could you login as root, create the launcher, then use from your normal user account? Haven't tried that either, but I wouldn't expect it to work. I'm not sure that a normal user would be able to use a launcher created that way, but even if they could, I doubt that it would...

Thanks. I know how to create the launcher, though in this instance, the launchers are going on the top panel, not on the desktop. What I was having trouble with was setting the access high enough for what I needed.

[Solved] What can be used instead of gtksu

I need to create a couple of launchers with root access. In the past, I would simply have used gtksu and been prompted for the root password. In SolydX I'm a bit lost - there is no gtksu, and I don't know what to look for for a graphical version of sudo. Is there such an animall? Is there anything I...

Re: New iso’s!

this is the md5sum that i have as good (downloaded from the main server on the 22th) d1c1ef6f8b0bb2ce73fe71ba6a63be5a solydx32_201309.iso :( Thanks. Looks as though there was a problem with the download after all - that's the published md5sum, which doesn't match what I'm getting. Guess I'll have t...

Re: New iso’s!

I've download both 32 and 64-bit latest versions of SolydX (using the torrent). Checked the md5sum for both. The 64-bit version matches the md5sum published on the web page, but the 32-bit doesn't - comes out as: d54e8c84f3bd815510cb9627d9e8f20e solydx32_201309.iso I don't especially want to downloa...

Re: Sambashare

Installed without problems. I've edited the Thunar custom action, but that doesn't seem to be showing up (maybe have to reboot or log out/in?). I can see the share I created from my desktop machine, and I can open it using Thunar on that machine. However, any attempt to copy files to it fails - I ge...

:) I don't use Samba much, but I do need to sometimes. Missed your original message. I'll give it a try next time I'm on my home network.

Re: UP 2013.09.06 06:00 UTC [PRODUCTION]

Just ran the update on my desktop (HP dc7900, SolydX), using the update manager. UM updated itself, then reloaded all the changes and started the UP. After a few seconds it simply disappeared. I restarted it from the menu (the icon didn't come back to the status bar). This time it went through witho...

In (I was going to say more recent kernels, but its been that way for a while...), all hard drives show up as sd? - the hd naming is no longer used.

Re: Plymouth not starting

Not sure why it should error like that, but I wouldn't worry about it - Plymouth is just a pretty boot screen (IMHO not that pretty), so the system will be fully functional without it, and you'll see boot messages instead (which I find more useful than a pretty screen). It does seem to have problems...

Re: Thunar crash when NFS share is down

One option you might try is to use the "soft" option in your fstab. I've always been reluctant to use it, since it can lead to data corruption. Its been suggested that using TCP instead of UDP for NFS helps mitigate data corruption problems when using a soft mount, so that combination might be worth...

Re: Thunar crash when NFS share is down

Thunar crashes when my NAS with NFS shares is down. It refuses to show the local home folder. Is there a way to "give up" when the network share is not found, and continue working on the local machine? Perhaps something can be done with a script, but that would be over my head.. Many thanks! There ...

Re: Connect to drives on another Linux Computer

Maybe Gigolo? If you open the sidepane your network stuff is listed I think. From what I can see, the OP is running SolydK. I think that gigolo would pull in a lot of Gnome stuff - it depends on gvfs and probably other gtk libraries. I don't run SolydK, so I'm not sure how much extra it would requi...

Re: Connect to drives on another Linux Computer

This is probably a simple question but how do I get to the files on another Linux computer on my home network? I am running SolydK and I don't just see them in Dolphin. Lots of possible ways. You could enable the samba server on one machine and set up shares for the directories you want to copy fil...

Hi, So far I'm very pleased of my 1st linux distro and it's solydx 64bit, however I couldn't find how to change behavior of middle button, Lenovo Thinkpad laptop/IBM. It's working (opening urls in new tab) but I can't scroll in any window (as I do in "Windows"). It's very annoying because, I'm so u...

Post install problems

I've just installed SolydX 64 on a friends machine. Northing very special - its a 2.5 GHz Core2Duo, Gigabyte motherboard, Nvidia graphics card, 4 GB RAM, installed to a 500 GB Western Digital hard drive. Install completed without any visible problems. I did have an initial problem - the motherboard ...
