Re: Improve on-line privacy of users

I install Privacy Badger, uBlock Origin, and HTTPS Everywhere on both Firefox and Vivaldi on all my systems. Lately I've been trying out CanvasBlocker. That said I also prefer minimal add-ons installed by default. The above four make a lot of sense though... Maybe the best way to go is a page on the...

Re: Notification of Updates

The same issue occurs on my system. I’m using SolydX 9 on a HP G60 laptop. While I have very occasionally seen an update notice, most often I don’t and I check for updates in the terminal once a week. An additional thing I’ve noticed is when Package Updater is opened it shows: Checking for updates ....

One of the reasons I like Solydx is the default use of Firefox-esr.

Re: SolydX-9 - Setting up Desktop Background

I believe I've figured out the way to to select a folder with the image you want to select for the background. Lets say you have two subfolders in your Pictures folder that have background images. One called Walls and one called Wallpapers. Open Desktop Settings. In "Folder:" select Other... The Sel...

Re: SolydX-9 - Setting up Desktop Background

I'm using Solydx-9 and I can verify the same problem Matt is having. I have a subfolder in Pictures called Walls. When I open Desktop in Settings and try to navigate to the Walls subfolder it is grayed out. After setting an image as the desktop background using Thunar, I can then access all the imag...

Re: SolydXK-9 beta: testing upgrade, ISOs, changes and more

Further testing reveals virtualbox is gone despite my excluding it from the purged files. It must have been in the obsolete.txt list for a reason. Any information would be appreciated. Synaptic shows a package installed called virtualbox-dkms.

Re: SolydXK-9 beta: testing upgrade, ISOs, changes and more

Today I had a couple hours available to test the upgrade script on my secondary Solydx system. I had everything backed up and was prepared to do a new install with the Soydx 9 iso once it's finalized, so I figured this would be a good test case. I followed the tutorial outlined earlier in this post ...

Re: Software after fresh install missing.

Sounds like you're referring to SolydXK Welcome. It's in the system menu and you can run run it again any time by selecting it there.

Re: Replace Software Manager with Gnome Software

From my very early days using Linux, I've preferred researching applications via browser, then install using Synaptic over any other Software Managers. The current Software Manager works fine when I want to browse some comments and Gnome Software works fine for that as well. Seems like a reasonable ...

I also believe the 32-bit versions should maintain the same theme as the 64-bit.

Re: Community ISO Testing

I've been testing the solydx32_201412.iso and by new theme, I was refering to greybird-solydx plus the Evolvere icons. My working install of solydx was done about 18 months ago and I haven't done a new install since, just updates. I thought those were changes to this 32-bit testing iso? Regardless, ...

Re: Community ISO Testing

I've been checking out the Solydx 32bit for the past couple days and have found no issues. Like the new theme. Regarding Schoeljes questions: Replace Abiword/Gnumeric with LibreOffice? Yes Replace Unetbootin with solydxk-usb-creator? Yes Remove Exaile, Gimp, Pidgin, Transmission, Xchat? Prefer not b...

Re: The future of SolydXK

I totally agree. This is a great community and both SolydX and SolydK are working well for me. Why would anyone make a change at this point if they are happy with eithor or both ? There is plenty of time to explore what the changes mean for each of us, as well as time to supply input and some influe...

Re: Xfce desktop icon labels tweak

Great customization for my icon labels with a custom theme i'm working on. Had to change the x/y offset to 1 pixel to display right on this 1366x768 display.

Thanks for pointing this out! :D

Re: What programs would you include in a 'fully loaded' dist

Since I run KDE for a fully loaded distro, the list would be strongly influenced by that. Office: Libreoffice (full suite), Okular, Calibre Internet: Firefox, Rekong, Ktorrent, Kget, Kopete IM, KRDC, Skype Graphics: Digikam, Gwenview, Gimp, Krita, Simple Scan, Ksnapshot Multimedia: Amarok, VLC, K3b,...

Re: The future of SolydXK

I think the SolydXK team has been doing a great job and I'm very happy with SolydK HE on a desktop and SolydX HE on an older laptop. Both home editions were installed in 2013, before the business editions were available. However, what attracted my attention to this distro was the idea of a good busi...

Re: SolydX Business Edition

SolydX BE is a great idea! I'd prefer to install the X version on business desktops vs the K version. It also looks like a great way to introduce new users to Linux. I've been trying it out for a couple hours and it certainly seems ready to make it official. I'll continue to use it and see if I unco...
