This is because root (/root) is a different user, which can have totally different config files.

Code: Select all

sudo -i
ls -la /root

Re: Power-off icon goes to sleep and initial volume too high!

SteliosSk: I suggest you open a terminal and then enter the following command: alsamixer Hit F6 and select your soundcard. You can then use the cursor keys (not the mouse!) to change various channels and levels. I suggest you could try reducing the "PCM" level to see if this reduces the distortion y...

Re: Restore to XFCE default user/panel settings

These files originate in /etc/skel/.config/xfce4. Restore the default files with the following command:

Code: Select all

cp -a /etc/skel/.config/xfce4 ~/.config/
Note that ".config" has a "dot" prefix - meaning it is a hidden directory.

Re: ISO testing 201701

I recently needed to create another user and to my surprise the UID and GID didn't end up as 1001:1001 but 1001:1003. Turns out SolydX has two system groups in the wrong range: sambashare and lpadmin (1001 and 1002 respectively). FWIW, my SolydXK (stable) /etc/group/ dates back to December 2013 and...

So I think I can wait a month to do that:) You can, of course, do that but please don't assume that will remove the need for you to troubleshoot problems. "Freeze" basically means feature-fr...

Re: Best way to recover data if the network fails?

The effect of network failure is dependent on where your data is stored. Do you store your data on your own local machine(s) or on a remote cloud server? In the first case, you will need to backup your data to another local or remote drive. This can be done using the rsync terminal command, or with ...

Re: Limiting web navigation in a period of time

This kind of blocking is very difficult to implement at computer and/or OS level as there are so many ways to get around it! It doesn't take long before the kids know more than their parents about IT and so they soon, with the help of their friends, find all the workarounds. ;-) Probably the best wa...

Re: Happy Holidays!

eselma: I do agree with many of your comments. However, I am not convinced that a "new" version would be "better than the version I installed". Re: Accidentally removed Solydx icon from screen !

hmh: I am still confused about what your mystery SolydX icon actually did! :? From the info you posted, your system is running Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa. There is no reason why a SolydX icon (or anything else relating to SolydX) should be present on this installed Mint system. If, instead of Mint, you ac...

Re: Accidentally removed Solydx icon from screen !

Linux Mint Rosa is based on Ubuntu, while SolydX is based on Debian so these are totally different operating systems. Additionally, Linux Mint uses either the Mate or Cinnamon desktop e...
