hmh: To allow us to check exactly which versions of software you are running, please hit Ctrl-Alt-t to open a terminal. Then enter the following commands (each one followed by the Enter/Return key): uname -a cat /etc/debian_version lsb_release -a apt policy xfce4 Then highlight all the resulting tex...

Re: Hello and Happy Holidays!

dudeskie: I am very pleased that you found your way to our wonderful SolydXK OS. There is a great community here and so, if you have any questions, I am sure someone will be able to help. However, I am concerned that you seem to be expecting Linux systems to be cheap clones of Windows and capable of...

Re: Solydk hangs on boot after hardware upgrade

If you can get to a command prompt, such as with Ctrl-Alt-F1, then I suggest you could remove all the NVidia packages (as these are, presumably, no longer required) with the following command: sudo apt-get purge nvidia* Then reboot and, if the SolydK GUI is restored, you could run the DDM (Device Dr...

Re: Accidentally removed Solydx icon from screen !

If you have installed SolydX main edition, which has the XFCE desktop, I am running the same system.

Please see a screenshot of my system below which shows the process I described earlier...

Re: Hi

Helen and David, welcome to our SolydXK community. You have followed a well-worn path, from Windows to Ubuntu and then onwards and upwards to SolydXK. 8-) As you will find, this is a great distro that should do everything you want. I would just offer one piece of advice... Please remember that Solyd...

Re: Accidentally removed Solydx icon from screen !

hmh: So, have you tried to add the menu back as I described above?

Don't worry - you don't need to be Techies! Many answers are already here on the forums so a quick search can often be worthwhile. However, if you can't find the answer to a problem then just ask. We are a friendly bunch here! :-)

Re: Accidentally removed Solydx icon from screen !

hmh: Firstly, let me welcome you to SolydXK forums and I trust that you will enjoy using this great distro. If you would like to post in the " Introduce yourself " section it will be great to hear a bit more about who you are and how you got here! What exactly do you mean by a "Solydx icon"? Do you ...

Re: Backup solution

SolydForEver: I don't really understand why you are moving files around before and after running luckyBackup. One way of backing up files is to simply copy all the files to the backup location. However, the advantage of using rsync is that only the changes are copied to the backup location. This mea...

Re: Happy Holidays!

SolydForEver: It seems that my feeble attempt at irony has been lost in translation. :-( You are quite right in that I am against artificially boosting the Distrowatch numbers. However, I most certainly do not agree with one of the greatest crooks of all time to vote early and vote often! I simply u...

Re: Happy Holidays!

My apologies for drifting slightly off-topic but why all this talk of a "new release"? The SolydXK main editions are based on Debian stable (a "fixed" release) and so, logically, a new release of SolydXK is only needed after a new release of Debian stable. Debian stable "point releases" can be ignor...

Re: Flash and Firefox

Thanks for the clarification.

Hopefully, other SolydXK users will understand that they should now install the solydxk-flashplugin package manually if they wish to use the latest (and least-insecure!) version of Flash.

Re: Flash and Firefox

Thanks Schoelje and I understand that I can install the new package manually. The impression I got from the blog post is that the old solydxk-flashplugin-11 package would automatically be replaced by the later solydxk-flashplugin package by running the normal updates. As most users, IMHO, would gene...

Re: Flash and Firefox

The solydxk-flashplugin package should have removed flashplugin-nonfree, solydxk-flashplugin-9 and solydxk-flashplugin-11. My (stable) SolydX system currently only has one Flash package installed: solydxk-flashplugin-11 (version 11.2.202.644xk1) However, after an new apt update, there is no offer t...

Re: Backup solution

luckyBackup creates exactly the same file structure in the backup location as the source location, although you can, of course, select specific directories you wish to backup (such as /etc/ and /home/) so you don't need to backup the entire file tree. You can also include and/or exclude specific fil...

Re: Breakages and News tracking Debian Testing

Just a thought... Would it be possible for Debian/SolydXK to have a packaged script, similar to FlashPlayer and PepperFlashPlayer , that just downloads and installs the current VB direct from Oracle? This solution should be compliant with Oracle's licensing as no Oracle software would need to be on ...

Re: Backup solution

+1 for luckyBackup ! I use it for automatic scheduled daily and weekly backups across my LAN and it has never let me down. I also use it for "on-demand" backups, such as just before an OS dist-upgrade. luckyBackup is very configurable while still being easy to use. It can also create "snapshots" so ...
