Re: Pulse Audio Problems

mdavidg: kurotsugi gave you the two commands to run. If you are given a request for a "result" or an "output" this generally means that you need to open a terminal and then copy and paste the required command(s) into the terminal and hit enter. I recommend "paste" rather than "type" as this will avo...

Re: what is the best way to get LXQt in SolydK

So I started with SolydK, but I was having some issues with my KDE desktop crashing. How stable is testing right now. Is it reliable? IMHO, if you were not happy with the reliability of the stable edition of SolydK then I guess you would be even more disappointed by the frequent breakage associated...

nbi: Personal abuse does not help resolve anything. You are correct in that I do not know your "level of linux usage and knowledge", largely because you never introduced yourself when you first posted in Feb 2014. A user's introductory post explaining their Linux history is always welcomed by the co...

^ +1 ... Someone needs to investigate how greybird-solydx is munging up the system. May I respectfully suggest that this "someone" could be you ? You have my sympathy Frank. Please take time out with your friends and family and do whatever it takes to help you move on. The ISOs can wait and the forums will tick-over nicely until you want to get back online.

Re: does xfce have a USB panel notifier

Thanks grizzler.

I can confirm that the "Locations" plugin is called "Places" in English and is basically a subset of the Thunar sidepane window. It does offer the mount/unmount options for a connected USB stick.

Re: DNS cache - Server/client connection problem

ilu: You could get some funnies with DNS etc if there is some misconfiguration with network management. The NM can override existing CLI and router settings and so, if the NM is only partially configured, it could be that blank settings may cause network confusion. I suggest it could be beneficial t...

Re: DNS cache

ilu: I am still puzzled by your network configuration. Are you using a wired (ethernet) or wireless connection? Do you actually have the NetworkManager GUI installed and is it enabled? apt policy networkmanager cat /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf We have had some debate previously on these f...

Re: DNS cache

AIUI, on Linux systems, DNS caching is only done by DNS servers and so, unless you are running your own DNS server, there should not be any local caching. However, as you are also using Wine, the DNS resolution may be getting confused by some Windows-related garbage. I'm sorry, but I have no info ab...

Re: Accessibility

I have no experience of the Accessibility features myself but I would suggest that if you wish to try these you will first need to install the gnome-orca packages by opening a terminal and entering the following command: apt install gnome-orca Then open the XFCE Accessibility screen and enable the A...

Re: DNS cache

I would ignore any info from an ISP or MS support desk as I doubt they will be of much use with a Linux system. Firstly, I would ask if your DSL router has actually been configured with your preferred DNS server addresses? If this is the case, then it is only necessary for connected computers to poi...

Re: Problem with theme in some applications.

rahzar: I'm pleased you got this working. :-) As you have installed qBittorent from source, I trust you realise that this application will no longer be upgraded as part of the normal SolydXK/Debian apt system and so you will need to monitor this manually. It is also possible that there could be depe...

Re: New updates in SolydK 8 Jessie

I'm not sure if the SolydXK Update Manager will hold packages but, if you want a GUI, then the Synaptic Package Manager does allow packages to be locked. See this how-to: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-lock-p ... nager.html

Re: Problem with theme in some applications.

... Could it have something to do with installing the older "stable" versions of vlc, qbittorrent, and handbrake from synaptic? Would it help if I found a more recent package for those programs? Unless you really need a particular feature from a later version then my advice is always to stick to st...

Re: Accessibility

From the XFCE4 accessibility documentation ... When Assistive Technologies is enabled, the Xfce desktop is enabled, xfce4-session will load the required modules so the toolkit (Gtk) can communicate with Orca, the suite of utilities for the visually impaired. Is there any particular accessibility fea...

Re: does xfce have a USB panel notifier

I don't think there is a direct equivalent to the KDE notifier in XFCE. The best workaround, IMHO, is to right-click on the panel then select "Panel" > "Add New Items". Then add both the "Show Desktop" and "Mount devices" plug-ins to the panel. You can right-click on these buttons to move them to th...
