Re: Need to learn how to overcome dependencies on install

rghollenbeck: As long as you are installing software via the Software Manager, Synaptic or apt-get you really should not be getting any dependency problems. All dependencies should be taken care of automatically via the packaging system. If openshot is still complaining about missing dependencies th...

Thanks for that. I generally just use locate and grep so never found a need for Catfish but Linelight seems quite a neat application that should help SolydX users who prefer a search GUI.

Re: Catfish doesn't find any files.

Just to summarise info from my earlier posts... I am running 32-bit SolydX (production) which was originally installed with the 201311 ISO then (later) updated with UP 2013.12.06. The python errors with catfish v0.8.2 are shown on catfish bug report #1230245 so it looks like this problem may be fixe...

Re: Catfish doesn't find any files.

Running from the terminal I am getting a similar error to MAYBL8 with the following error repeated when running catfish... ...TypeError: not all arguments converted during string formatting Logged from file CatfishWindow.py, line 1277... From catfish bug report #1230245 it looks like this problem ma...

Re: Catfish doesn't find any files.

GeneC: Although cli locate returns many hits, catfish returns nothing on my system (even after updating locatedb with the catfish gui). I see that catfish suggested dependencies are zeitgeist and python-zeitgeist. These two packages are not installed on my system. Are they both installed on yours?

Re: Catfish doesn't find any files.

ane champenois: I seem to have the same problem as the OP in that catfish does not appear to work on my SolydX production system either. Installed catfish is version 0.8.2-1. Which SolydX/K and catfish versions are you using?

Re: KDE Failed to start error message -KDE Can't start- No w

keynote29: Thank you. You are quite welcome and I trust you will be very pleased with your new SolydK system. There is a lot to learn with a new OS but once you accept that Linux is not Windows and that things are often done differently here then I am sure you will come to appreciate the great advan...

Re: KDE Failed to start error message -KDE Can't start- No w

keynote29: As you seem to be new to Linux and SolydK, this Guide To KDE may give you some useful (if unofficial) information on the KDE desktop environment used by SolydK. I can't personally vouch for how much of this guide is directly relevant to the current release of SolydK as I haven't used a KD...

Re: KDE Failed to start error message -KDE Can't start- No w

Saved to desktop succesfully... Good! Could NOT save to Home ... got error message : "The document could not be saved, as it was not possible to write to /home/test1." "Check that you have write access to this file or that enough disk space is available." This is quite correct. As I tried to make c...

I selected each output and clicked on the CODE button- I didnot see any difference, Hope it is correct... In the forum editing box you should see that your highlighted text now has "code" and "/code" tags added at each end. If you hit the "Preview" button you will see that this text is now in a def...

keynote29: Thanks for the requested outputs but can I suggest you wrap any such terminal output in "code" tags as this then formats the text in a scrollable box making it easier to read. Re: PPA on Debian - sort of? Video

Discussion about PPAs being installed on anything other than an Ubuntu system always make me uneasy! My concern is that too many newbies can misunderstand that these are not native to a Debian system and therefore can cause major problems. While a knowledgeable Linux user may be able to successfully...
