Re: SolydXK - Meta Package - PHOTO

Yep darktable is probably the most powerful raw image editor out there. But steep learning curve and still daunting for me a Lightroom user. So only for the most serious of photographers. And wouldn't recommend it for the majority of the masses out there. Digikam,Gwenview,etc.. are more inline with ...

Re: UP 2013.10.06 12:00 UTC [PRODUCTION]

Some questions and issues. 1) installing the new version updater before the upgrade pack ask about replace a config file? Is this going to be normal? Or was it something I changed to cause the difference in the config? Wish I took a snapshot of the dialog to post. 2) Stated this month's update pack ...

Re: [RANT] #1 Reason People Don't Switch

Totally agree with your assessment. But the reality is people don't care of a safer and more free experience with computers. Because it requires to invest some time and brain power to making informed decisions. These are just simple reflections of a bigger problem with our culture & society. Look wh...

Re: About to take the plunge

In the next window in the left side column entitled Models: DCP-7045N is selected by default but my printer model DCP-7060Dis not even listed. Doesn't matter as many times the base drivers run multiple printer models. As there is no way they can write a new printer driver from scratch everytime it ...

Do you mean the standard password prompt as to run some programs requires you to enter your user account name and password that you used to install and setup your desktop. Did you try your username & user password?

Google "asus eee 1001HA hidden partition" As many laptops and netbooks have a hidden 4-8gb hidden restore partition for easy restoring back to factory state. Boot back up with live usb and run gparted from the menu and find the hidden boot partition and delete it. As it is interfering with the locat...

Re: About to take the plunge

now thinking: swap 8gb (=ram 4gx2); root / 20; /home 72. A remaining 400Gb partition is left unallocated. Sounds good thou think you will never exceed 2gb use of a 4gb swap. And yep can always increase the size of partitions later with unallocated available. Also may find you might need a dedicated...

Re: Install SolydX without formatting the root

Am not understanding the issue? As even a one partition root and /home you can backup /home to restore back to partition? As for me having separate /home means I can do a clean install of / root and format. Or no worries some update will bork my root therefore /home. As has happened before to many n...

Re: Solved - KDE desktop alternatives

Well all I can pass on is my settings for it. 1) I did not add it to the desktop but added it to the panel. As plasmoids can be added to the desktop or the panel. 2) Selected city and accuweather. 3) In yaWP settings Desktop have traditional layout selected. 4) For Panel - Actual weather (both) sele...

Re: Add ClamAV to SolydXK

Yep most of these fears are conditioned knee-jerk reactions coming from being a windows user with little understanding how linux works. I'm all for someone running on a email server or a linux machine on a group network. Helping to stamp on propagating viruses onward. But and a Big But for me. It's ...

Yep yaWP weather (accuweather) here works great. And more a Gnome desktop user no folder view here. As mentioned most of desktop is covered with apps anyways. I have two short panels in lower left corner and one conky script on 2nd monitor that gives me the Date/Time/Ram/Wifi/Cpu. http://farm4.stati...

Re: SolydXK steadily gaining in popularity ...

Yep steady slide up over last month does mean something. As moved up 30 positions last 4-5 weeks means others are seeing SolydXK mentioned in blogs, linux action show, youtube reviews and clicking on to check them out. I am thinking many are tiring of Ubuntu's direction and upgrade methodology and ubu...
