Re: Update Manager suggestion

Yep was missing some of the Mint updater features. 1) Status bar showed total number of packages and total size of download. Had to track it down in logs for that info. 2) Clicking details during the package downloads gave sizes and progress bar on individual packages as they were downloaded. 3) Cli...

Re: Info to Google

Someone mentions in that thread.
In LMDE and or SolydX updater you can change the url and the time interval for checking your internet connection. I don't know if that's possible in the ubutnu based Mint.
Haven't looked into myself and what it all entails.

Re: Best KDE Distro by Dedoimedo (in Netrunner Mag)

I think it will be crucial the next 9 months with new KDE platform and wayland coming next year. How quickly to squash bugs and give a smooth and snappy distro. Kde could be the Bringer of Light or Hand Slam of Darkness depending how well they roll out KDE 5 and Wayland next year. And more donations...

Re: Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update.

Yep seem to have no issues but many on wifi do across different platforms. It is a definite Steam Issue and specific Wifi setups. As over 3 dozen tries at different times of the day or night. Different AP and got further but no more than 75% progress. Did upgrade it when on Mint 14 Cinnamon and had ...

Re: Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update.

Thanks but No Go! As goggling shows this to be a common issue across platforms. As Steam update is touchy about the connection type. Especially Wifi connections. Using another wiif spot got all the way up to 75% then just stalled. When my main wifi connection usually only goes 3%-5% before failing. ...

Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update.

Tried to run Steam and it wanted to update. Am On Wifi and Online and gets this after over a dozen attempts. Fatal Error: Steam needs to be online to update. From googling seems Steam doesn't like Wifi connections much and wants you have a hardwire to the internet. As reading many vary degrees of fa...

Thanks a lot that seem to fix the issue. And appreciate your help. But still no default wine folder and installed DVD Shrink and has no menu entry. So right click menu and edit applications for KDE Menu editor. Then created a sub-folder called wine at the bottom of apps. And in that created a dvd sh...

Re: Can't login to KDE, "Login Failed"

I'm being able to check out a laptop at the library to get things done online. As I think I said in my OP I was able to get logged in as root and create a new user, and I'm able to get things done on that account (sans wifi due to a hardware issue). I think part of my problem is that the system may...

Re: Grub vs Mbr

Yep for future proof wanted to maintain the default mbr that is automatically installed to first partition. And you should always install windows first. Makes it much easier and less workarounds. So I always do custom partitions install and change the default grub location which is also automaticall...

Broken Debian Plymouth Manager?

Don't know if this a Debian issue or SolydK issue or a theme issue. Was trying out the different themes all were working fine. At some point I installed Solydkbo and saw some downloading and reverting to unstable? Afterwards could not change back to SolydK theme. It was there and was gone from the T...
