Acer Aspire X3990 EFI bios for linux?

I just got a good deal with Acer X3990 CPU. it has EFI 'bios'... and Win7 installed in bios mode, hard disk is msdos-partition-table. This CPU has the same version P01-B02. When I set bios to disable USB legacy support, the USB flash becomes no longer available for booting, which is expect...

Re: USB Live

For challenging hardware/BIOS quirks, I've found RMprepUSB and BootICE helpful; +++ on RMprepUSB Last year I created a multiboot USB flash, 8G , with 9 iso. Using Windows OS version of Easy2Boot to create. Have been wonderful, use it very often at some other people computers. Including using it on ...

Re: Out of the closet

Hi Wayne, I know I should stop trying because it is making me crazy. But, everywhere you read about compiling software yourself, it is the standard in a Linux system. Every true Linux user compiles his/her own software, like everyone is using vi as text editor. But it never ever works, so I just ha...

Re: Out of the closet

I wonder how you guys do that? How is it possible that with you things are working and for me it has never (zero times) worked in 6 years . How do I do it, what do I have to do to make it work? What are the rules, are there general rules or is it different every time, depending on the package? Wher...

Re: Mozilla bookmarks

Similar to what mistergil has said. Long time ago I always use export to html, save on usb flash, then for any new OS, win or lin, I import bookmark from usb flash. I think after sometime, I have too many duplicates.. and bookmark become too confusing, so I switch to using Backup to json file, save ...

Re: Keep my home partition

Well, this is not something I could have guessed, could I ? Anyway, I've installed solydX but I've put a @ in my password. And now I'm stuck at the login screen because I can't write @ with my keyboard. I've read through the forum and made all the dpkg-reconfigure that I've found. I've seen a lot o...

Re: Boot iso from Hard Disk... run without DVD or USB

A question to be answered in my play, "Once you have the ISO booted and assuming it's a LiveDVD ISO, can one do an install from that point?" Scott, Yes, you can install from this "Live-iso". ps. Just did it for capturing some information. I boot with SolydK-from-lmde, on grub menu, choose Solykbe. ...

Boot iso from Hard Disk... run without DVD or USB

At time, when we do not have DVD :( to make a bootable media with the iso, and do not have USB flash :( to make a bootable media with the iso, yet we wish to test a Linux iso...what can we do :?:  Run frugal install from Hard Disk. There are several ways, such as # poorman (frugal install), co...

Re: moving from LMDE to SolydK

Well, I am sure this had been addressed before. But I kind of like to try it myself.. to see how it works and record my steps 1. Download the 'old-latest' LMDE201303 -mate-32-bit iso 2. Install on a hard disk partition 3. reboot and check Update-manager, it showd UP8.. well, it said this computer is...

Re: moving from LMDE to SolydK

I've just updated to UP8 in LMDE with KDE. It was a proper nightmare... I am now considering switching to SolydK and wondered whether I can uninstall mintsources and put SolydK repos in /etc/apt/sources.list Has anybody tried this? Would I be in danger of totally screwing up my system? LMDE support...

Re: Segmentation Fault

Well, I spent a bit of time to try.. I cannot understand your language, fortunately the links you provided led me to the correct webpage Here I tested on a Live version of MX14-beta2, which is based on Debian, so it should be similar to SolydXK. Your issue might simply be incompatibility between Ubu...

Re: Ubuntu 13.10: Reinstallation wipes out all/other partiti

hmm...that is no good.. especially for people who multiboot/dual boot. That is one reason for me to continue the practice of using only Manual installation, or Something Else... and.. it is always good advice for people to do "backup, backup, backup'..to external media before attempting to install a...
