Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

I also learned more, faster, here than anywhere else. My education started on page 21 or so. After all that I had to take a break and sort of let it all gel... for 6 months...

And discovered I had gotten rusty, had to go back and refresh my memory...

That'll teach me. Maybe.

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

Interesting! Thank you! I guess I was using apt hold as a kind of lazy man's pinning... What is "release a=now"? Is that a way of indicating "as is"? Edit: Found it, never mind -- Sorry, I obviously need to get back into the man pages and the apt how-to. Thank you again! :) 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

If sounds interesting to the group, I'll keep posting some results just for experimenting purposes. ;) It's always interesting, and most helpful. I do still have those two old Sid installs mentioned above, but haven't messed with them in a while. Instead, I wanted to try a few install/upgrade scena...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

Thanks kurotsugi. I really need to further explore the intricacies of pinning, which I am not used to fooling with. Thank you for the info on downgrading packages! :) I got paranoid about dpkg and so just wiped the thing.. . . . ============<[ For info, in case it may help others: ]>==...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

@kurotsugi, How about a simple "apt-mark hold"?

And would it matter if dpkg is to be held, or not?

Or do too many things get replaced/updated for that one to work? Just curious... :?

(I wiped that one last night, going to redo that one, this time from testing...)

Re: Guy jumped ship using SolydXK

Seems He may have acquired the wrong impression about the future of SolydXK? Well, that's possible, but after reading the post it sounds to me as if that person may just prefer rolling to stable, likes Gnome, or just likes to hop, or whatever... This Linux thing is a journey for each of us, and I t...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

Well, I'll be a monkey's butt. The blasted thing booted... I did a new install, installed nvidia, changed sources and ran the du... And forgot to install listbugs & friends. A couple of configure -a's and install -f's later it booted. Guess I'd better install listbugs & co. now... fleabus@dv7-1270us...

Thanks. Figured that was a mostly-distro-level fix.

I get to ask one dumb question per day.

Re: Package configuration errors when using python3 (Easy fi

I've also seen this when updating.

I assume that package updates might possibly revert these changes? Please correct me if I'm wrong, not trying to be snarky, I really don't know... ? :)

Has anyone seen this?

We're #4.

It's old news, from July... The author was attracted to the UPs. Still a nice article though...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

I just copy-paste it all into a text file, hit "N" and take my time... I usually find that the great majority of them don't affect me. For example, bugs in grub. My controlling grub is a production install. Grub bugs won't affect me if I don't actually boot from that grub... However, I still install...

Re: Breakages and News tracking Debian Testing

Not sure if it represents Debian Testing: For now, it does. When Jessie becomes stable, it will represent Stable. If you want to continue to track Testing after the freeze, change "Jessie" to "Testing" and comment the backports repo... Not sure about the feasibility of using the jessie-backports re...
