Re: Wallpaper for the upcoming Stretch-Testing build

Hmm, the outlined logos kind of loose something when they are by themselves. I still like the flat version you did better. I like those 'business card' wallpapers too. You do a good job with all of them. I should probably update my signiture. If refers to the old 'Business Edition' of SolydXK. If yo...

Re: Wallpaper for the upcoming Stretch-Testing build

Very nice. For a production machine, I like your flat wallpapers better that you have in the other thread. But I really like these blueprint wallpapers for the Testing editions. It tells me that its still a beta or under construction. Very cool idea and nicely executed. Out of curiousity, did you do...

Only boots up with Sysvinit

Hey guys, I recently had a power supply failure. Now I can no longer boot into SolydK as normal. I can only get my system running if I go into the Advanced options at Grub and select Sysvinit. Then things to work OK but I don't have a shutdown option. So I can't shutdown my machine as normal either....

Re: How about a 'SolydXK Next' iso

... Sounds like it might be best for me to just 'distr-upgrade' my current install after the freeze any way. So I think I can wait a month to do that:) You can, of course, do that but please don't assume that will remove the need for you to troubleshoot problems. "Freeze" basically means feature-fr...

Re: How about a 'SolydXK Next' iso

Users who want a solid reliable system that always works should run a release based on Debian stable, such as the SolydXK main editions. Users who want to experiment with the "next" release can run SolydXK EE based on Debian testing. However, such users must appreciate that this release is not stab...

Re: How about a 'SolydXK Next' iso

snipped ... as I've said earlier, there's no need to do that. there's no point maintaining two iso since they're same thing. stretch is testing so whatever name you use will be fine. just make sure you have correct entry on your repo address. the difference is that if you're using 'stretch', when d...

How about a 'SolydXK Next' iso

As I understand it Debian will freeze Stretch in February. How much changes between freeze and final release? Is it possible/reasonable to get an early release of SolydXK after freeze but before it is 'Stable'? I guess what I am thinking is that we now have the community EE editions with the repos p...

Re: How about a SolydM?

SolydB Budgie? ;) Hi jsalpha2. That would make it Solyd BM XK. :D I've been looking a lot at LXQt and Budgie both lately. I was thinking along the same lines. If we included LxQt and Budgie we would be 'SolydBLKX'. That would be pronounced 'Solid Blacks' Of course, we would probably have to adopt a...

Re: what is the best way to get LXQt in SolydK

Thank you Zill. Excellant advice. You are correct. I need to stick with Stable for my production machine. I might play with EE on my laptop which is more for play. Or just look at some live cds to see whats out there. Thanks for the advice.

Re: what is the best way to get LXQt in SolydK

I i think the best way to enjoy lxqt is by using a distro with lxqt. Yeah I agree. But at this point I am just trying to get a general feel for it. I find I don't really know a system unless I am actually using it. I'm not currently running EE , but I am thinking about it. How stable is testing rig...

what is the best way to get LXQt in SolydK

So I started with SolydK, but I was having some issues with my KDE desktop crashing. So I installed XFCE. That has proven to be much more stable. But I can't help but to wonder what LXQt would be like as a working machine. So what is the best way to install LXQt. Yeah, I know its not really ready, b...

Re: does xfce have a USB panel notifier

Grizzler, thank you! Its not as pretty as the KDE notifier, but that places plugin basically does what I need it to do. There are still things I miss about KDE, but that plugin solves the most annoying convenience feature that was missing. Thank you. I wonder what other plugins I am missing that I m...

Re: does xfce have a USB panel notifier

Thanks Zill, that is an option. Not nearly as convenient but it might be a reasonable work around. I was really hoping that I was just missing something. I've noticed that LXqt has a plugin notifier, so I am surprised that XFCE doesn't. I've gotten tired of some issues I've been having with KDE cras...

does xfce have a USB panel notifier

I recently installed xfce on top of my SolydK desktop, so I'm not a true SolydX setup, but here is my question. Is their a panel plugin for USB and memory cards. In KDE when I plug in a USB or memory card, I get a notifier pop up in the panel asking me what I want to do with the device/card. In xfce...

Re: Can I install Xfce on top of SolydK

I found one called Siki that seems to get me what I wanted. At least I have a similar color setup as I did with KDE. Now I can judge the desktops by their merits a little better.

Re: Can I install Xfce on top of SolydK

Forgive me, I come from KDE where they allow you to download new themes directly from the web to the theme setup page. (sounds better than it works though) So it must be the gtk theme that changes the panel. I've changed the windows theme and that didn't do it. But I can't find where to change the g...

Re: Can I install Xfce on top of SolydK

Well I finally installed the xfce meta package on top of SolydK. It seems to be working ok. I do seem to have a bug in the settings manager though. (I can only seem to view the first tab in any of the settings.) So that may be part of my question. But here is my question. How do I install a theme to...
