[solved] Video tearing (SolydK, NVIDIA)

After the latest UP, "tearing" is visible playing videos. This occurs whether or not desktop effects are enabled. DDM says recommended driver (NVIDIA) is installed and selected. This video card doesn't function with nouveau so NVIDIA is neccessary. Videos played fine with no "tearing" prior to UP. I...

Update Manager may fail to launch when using QTCurve in KDE

Just reporting this minor odd behavior. Issue: Update Manager will not launch when clicked on taskbar or from menu entry. Taskbar item "gksu" appears and times out. Workaround: In System Settings > Application Appearance > GTK, select "oxygen-gtk" for "Select a GTK2 theme" while using Update Manager.

Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

Those look awesome...I've always like the 'wood' look to a desktop going back to my early Linux days :) Thanks :) They go very well with a variety of nature backdrops too. One of these days I have to figure out how to get Plasma to match - it was so easy in the old days when you could just pick any...

Re: klipper appears dead

It's working fine here, I use it all the time.

Are you getting Klipper confused with the system tray "paste" utility or the "pastebin" plasmoids (or whatever in world they are)?

Perhaps delete the klipper config file and log back in? It's 'klipperrc' in /home/[you]/.kde/share/config

Re: Has nouveau come of age?

On my main PC, nouveau will lockup the system every time within seconds. Even booting a live CD is a no-can-do unless I can figure out how to run it with VESA or the proprietary nvidia drivers and nouveau must be blacklisted / removed ASAP upon install. It makes installing more fun. :x :) The way it...

Re: Wallpaper in SolydK

If I understand your question right: - Drag any suitable image over the desktop area and drop. A popup should appear asking what to do (options under "Widgets" or "Wallpaper"), select Image under "Wallpaper." or - Right click on the desktop. Select "default desktop settings." In the window that appe...

Kid3 + kid3-qt = ?

Prior to the recent update I had the KDE audio file tagging utility kid3 installed. If I recall right, there was the standard kid3 for KDE and a kid3-qt (maybe for use on gtk based systems without dragging in full kde dependencies?). After the update I have 2 entries in the menu: 1 for kid3 and a ne...

Re: UP 2014.01.15 [PRODUCTION]

Thank you for explaining that, zerozero Update appears to be successful! :D Only further things I can think to add are: - At the bottom of update manager window, it said "Launch Synaptic to begin update" for a while. It probably shouldn't be displaying that. Newbies might have done what it said. - T...

Re: UP 2014.01.15 [PRODUCTION]

Further update report from the "rocky update road" Upon seemingly successful completion of update, as a precaution I ran in Konsole: sudo apt-get install --reinstall nvidia-kernel-dkms although update manager should have taken care of that? Results: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency ...

Re: UP 2014.01.15 [PRODUCTION]

Just a report from the "rocky update road." First I had the same issue xanatos had. Applied solution. Resumed update. Update was halted by this: seg_error.jpeg In Konsole I did a sudo dpkg --configure -a To which it replied: Setting up man-db (2.6.5-2) ... Updating database of manual pages ... dpkg:...

Settings > System Settings > Login Screen; Convenience tab has the option to "Enable Auto-Login." Choose the user you want it to auto-login to.

To revert to using a password to login for privacy, just untick the option. :)

Re: update manager won't start

No idea here on that point, but what you can try in any case is to follow the instructions to "Updating with the terminal" (Konsole if you're using SolydK) from here: http://solydxk.nl/up-2013-12-06-ready/ Hopefully after, the updated update manager will work fine and you won't have to bother furthe...

Re: System Settings crashes when opening Workspace Appearanc

I noticed I'd forgotten to install dekorator this time. Went to install it in Synaptic and had this notice:

To be removed:

- kde-plasma-desktop
- kde-window-manager
- kde-workspace

...Um, I don't think that would be good. :(

Cancelled of course.
