Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

@greywolf: I'm sorry! My sincere excuse for not being aware of the potential risk. The disease itself is no less prevalent than it used to be, but the public awareness of its issues does seem to wane from time to time. Anyway, thank you for the adjustment (@ ZZ for the swift action) and again, sorr...

Sorry to be OT and an old naysayer here, but @tuxic do you not realise that people with epilepsy use the internet just like you do????!!!!! Your avatar is the PERFECT way to trigger an epileptic fit in someone! Only takes one look; and I know from family experience. As you cannot be in every room wi...

8-) you're welcome! football  my team is doing well (now!) but i don't trust'em  I've been an Arsenal supporter since I was 5 years old. They did one of those brand marketing 'sister' club things in the 'colonies' where they send heaps of free gear etc and lock you in for life?! It worke...

Repository Clarification

Just finished a fresh install of SolydX from the Multi-DVD and I have a small question of clarification about the sources.list file. The only change made to sources.list is to the Internode Mirror options as that is the ISP this machine connects to; and the change was made through standard GUI choic...

Re: UP process change

My position is and always has been 'your distro; your call'. The consultation is appreciated but whatever you can live with, users live with or leave. My question is around Update ISO's. I have a number of people I support that will not go anywhere near a 500Mb update. It's a large part of why they ...

Re: SolydXK - Meta Package - VIDEO

I must admit I have not followed too closely these META threads (mainly because there are so many?) but, if you are seeking input about the concept, I have some. I HATE Meta Packages!! and refuse to use them on systems I use and support. I even disable dkms for kernels and video drivers. This become...

Re: Add ClamAV to SolydXK Business Editions

Aaahh, see there young fella, be precise and you will get precise in return; as grandma used to always say?! I would now vote 'Yes' to this topic - whereas asked in the generic I voted 'No'. I can see Schoelje's point for the business environment, but for the 'home' environment I am firmly in the gr...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

Probably could do some cleanup here. I don't run ATI cards for some time so I am no expert in that driver area. Others seem to have you on the right track. But man, you have got to tidy up that sources.list!! You really have got some stuff in there that could be nightmares and demons stuff! :twiste...

Re: Feature Request: GUI Backup and Sync

Just type in a terminal prompt $ apt-cache search rsync !!!!!! And that's just based on rsync! How many variations do we need people? SolydXK is built on Debian. There are a "zillion" backup options already available in the repos, both CLI and GUI versions that do variations on the same thing, yet v...

Re: Problem after install

I have seen this error pop up on newer laptops and is a problem around GPT vs MBR partition table types. GPT is part of the new UEFI stuff and (as far as I know) you cannot use Parted to create a GPT partition table. This reference may help your understanding: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GU...

Re: Add ClamAV to SolydXK

I used Clamav & Clamtk both under Debian KDE perfectly well in the past, and both are already in the repos. I don't see enough 'additional' value added by this variation to warrant Schoelje having to dedicate valuable time to maintaining a version of it. He has enough to do! If someone wanted to tak...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

@GeneC, there is only one real rule I find you must follow when running Sid; learn the difference between "Y/n" !!!!! :) You just have to learn patience and a bit of caution. If a message says the upgrade is going to wipe out half your system, it might be prudent just to say No and wait ( and read u...

Re: Breakages and News - SolydXK-tracking Debian SID

Solyd-SID is fully DU'ed. Nothing broke, nothing held... Just noticed the name you use for the hybrid and I like it. I am running exactly the same hybrid as you and to date did not really know what to call it when discussing my system with people. That will do nicely! :) Just had a wonderful though...

Re: SolydK - add Kdenlive

Well, I do home video production ALL the time. It is one of my primary uses of my computers. Just as an aside; in the professional lab I used to be associated with all work was done on Linux/Unix computers using Betamax. Windows and VHS just did not cut it in the 'real' world. Anyway, Kdenlive is, I...

internode isn't a dynamic mirror :( What is your definition of 'dynamic'? My understanding from talking to the young lady who maintains the whole Linux mirror ( many many distros) that their updates occur by rsync to all master repos once a day. ....For the time being I have removed Internode from ...

Thanks for the updates Schoelje. This post is a little about iso's, repo's and UM?! Comes from a fresh install of the 'latest' 32 bit iso ( downloaded from Internode mirror). I was going to let you know about the 'kdenext' appearing on the 32 bit SolydX repo line but I see you've already covered tha...

Re: Semplice Linstaller - alternative for live-installer?

I would go with 'yes' (duly modified).

I have a Semplice install on a test machine. They do quite a few things simply & nicely. It is quite a nice distro if its parameters are what one is looking for.

Re: Community help needed: userbars

I don't like the idea of ranking: in here we are all equal, and ranking would contradict that. Totally agree! Ranking is a pointless waste of time. I am a member of one forum (where they rank by number of posts) and one user just regurgitates snippets from half a dozen Linux blogs around the intern...
