Re: Claws Mail for SolydX

I have been using Claws Mail since it was Sylpheed Claws; there was a fork some years ago; and I would never use anything else for email. I get 300-400 emails a day and the filtering capabilities of Claws are superb. It is an "old-fashioned" app in that it concentrates on "lean & mean" text based us...

Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

Posted the current SolydX desktop the other day; so here is the SolydK version. Nothing special, but I find it easy to work with:

Re: [ask] crunchbang

Just a small thing to add: Debian 8.0 will be called "Jessie"
Sorry, I knew it started with J ?! :) Should have looked it up. Thanks for the correction.

cheers,

cwwgateway wrote:zerozero, how do you reinstall nvidia after a liquorix kernel update? IIRC, liquorix does not have DKMS.
Re-run "sgfxi" from Smxi suite does the job here. I always specify the version of nVidia drivers I want with relevant option.

Re: [ask] crunchbang

A couple of things you have not mentioned but I thought I would just in case you have not thought of them. I know right at the moment Wheezy & Testing are the same thing, but, in a few weeks, that will change. When Debian 7.0 is released that will be what is currently Wheezy/Testing and it will beco...

Re: Show your Desktop Screenshots

Nothing fancy here - this is SolydX running against Sid with Liquorix 3.7 kernel & 304.64 nVidia on an Asus laptop. I spend a bit of time getting colors set the way I like them, even in CLI, because I spend a lot of time in the terminal. Some nice icons, bit of wallpaper and a 2nd panel with my most...

Re: My SolydX "Tweaks" after initial install.

Hey GeneC, I don't remember giving you permission to use a photo of me as your wallpaper?! :) Ahh, it'sOK I guess! I noticed you install gedit. I know it is a really nice editor - designing web pages is a snap with a couple of the useful addins you can get. Just thought I would mention though, there...

Re: SolydX-64bit tracking Debian SID

Found one serious bug with the new Nvidia driver (304.84). I could not drop out of XServer to CLI (command line). Details here = http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=245 Basically don't upgrade to this driver, or use the Nvidia (313.18-2) from Debian Experimental. from this bug report http:...

Re: SolydX-64bit tracking Debian SID

How about TWO spare partitions... 8-) One for SolydXK Testing Repos and one for SID.. Both will help with testing and debuggin.... ;) Yeah, OK. I've only got about 25GB to spare on the machine at the moment and I usually like to leave enough temporary space to test video production and BIG compiles...

Re: SolydX-64bit tracking Debian SID

You know, it may have been present before (304.64-4 in Testing) without me noticing it. (New install and perhaps never dropped out of X-Server). I only noticed when I installed SMXI, then went to install Liquorix, and new Nvidia.... :?: Perhaps not. I used Smxi to put the Siduction 3.8-3.towo-siduc...

Re: Grub rescue

Hi CjTX2, those commands are all Linux running grub. it had nothing to do with windows OS, (hd0, msdos1) notation is used in grub, and has the same meaning in Linux OS/kernel as /dev/sda1 hopefully you do not face with grub rescue> not too nice to have it.. Ahhhh, the old "count...

Re: Hack attack

At the age of most of these "attackers" Schoelje, you and I were still out playing by climbing trees and building tree houses; these troglodytes have fun by scaling file hierarchies and building "spambots"!! :) Better to ban first and soften after! It is a timely reminder to all who run any sort of ...

Deb-Multimedia: really needed?

Not too long ago, I ran a partition on my newer test machine of a direct Debian Xfce setup that was aimed at Unstable/Experimental, used a Liquorix kernel from Smxi and nVidia graphics drivers. It had the deb-multimedia repos removed altogether. I had to pick up libdvdcss2 from elsewhere as a "once ...

Re: "Old packages" in a rolling

Ahhhh, my pet discussion from LMDE days is alive & well! :) To declare, I have moved both my SolydXK installs to track, in order of preference; SolydXK, Debian Testing, Debian Unstable & Debian Experimental. That suits me to balance rock solid apps with "newness". I use apt pinning to control where ...

Re: Some Packages Will Not Install

Well, I got myself intrigued :) so I am back! The answer is Yay!!!! (sort of). All I did was make some changes to sources.list & apt preferences. Problem goes away, all previous problem apps install without problem! Here is what I did: This is my new /etc/apt/sources.list: btw - Internode is my ISP ...

Re: Some Packages Will Not Install

cww, just "because" do you have gstreamer0.10-plugins-really-bad installed? Hmmm, that's given me a couple of thoughts?! :? I have been cutting back on the amount of Gstreamer stuff in use of late because Vlc has become my multimedia app of choice and it does not need any of it; but that ...

Some Packages Will Not Install

Post install on a fresh SolydX32 system, I went to install a (largish) group of usual software I use. I happened to use Synaptic Package Manager rather than Command Line. A number of packages would not install reporting 'broken' dependencies on selection. This is a sample of such packages, although ...

Small Glitch in SolydX32 install from USB stick

Installed SolidX32 on a slightly older test machine last night and had one small glitch to report. This machine has a number of 20Gb partitions on it, where I put each install I am testing (with no separate /home), a shared swap partition and a distinct, shared '/data' partition. This /data partitio...
