Re: USB Creator

Do you remember USB Creator having this nifty "repair" button? What command was behind it? Do you still have an old version lying around that has the repair function? I wanted to test the new ISO but I managed to totally mess up my boot pen drive.

What exactly did it say? That would have been the relevant part of the output. But never mind if everything works now.

Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

You should not need to do anything to tame .xsession-errors because the script I mentioned does that for you. The file will not get out of control even if it is flooded with error messages by a program that goes bonkers. If you move. xsession-errors to another location you just need to change the sc...

Re: Lightdm locker/greeter problem - laptop not waking up

The user can decide after installation. We need a solution DURING installation. We can't expect the user to hit a key every 3 minutes to prevent the system/screen from going comatose. If that codeblock works to keep the device awake during install, I'm all for it - I just dont have a device to test ...

Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

No, I'm sure it's not overwritten. The variable "LOG" is used inside the script only and has nothing to do with the variable ERRFILE. I tested with and without the script.

Re: Virtualbox Web Service problem

https://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7811 would see it I suppose. This is the exact error (although on bullseye/sid): https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=946903. Here's some explanation about a problem with permissions as possible reason: https://askubuntu.com/questions/74156...

Virtualbox Web Service problem

VirtualBox guest services failed for some time now and I finally started to investigate. journalctl -p 3 -xb tells me: systemd[1]: Failed to start VirtualBox Web Service. -- Subject: A start job for unit vboxweb.service has failed <snip> -- A start job for unit vboxweb.service has finished with a fa...

Re: Mounting .xsession-errors in tmp

I used to move it successfully into /var/log in exactly the way you did in SolydXK9. I could not get that to work in SolydXK10 either. I remember I tried for hours but I don't remember details anymore. I'm positive that we did not change anything relevant in between SolydXK9 and SolydXK10. It just s...

Linux Mint and Ubuntu controversy about snapd

I'm just linking this for information and maybe discussion: https://www.zdnet.com/article/linux-mint-dumps-ubuntu-snap/ If what they say about the proprietary nature of the snapcraft store is true - and I think it is - then I totally agree with Clem. Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Regarding the fix from that debian bug report: I can't help you there. Also I would not follow that direction if you don't understand precisely what you are doing. Also if everything works reasonably fast in your network I would shift my attention to 1. the other computer 2. your neighbours network ...

Re: SolydXK 10 202006 testing

Please post the output of journalctl -p 3 -xb if thats possible. If not, you can access the system.log files without the help from systemd using your other install.

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Wow, where do you get all this knowledge? There's actually almost no knowledge involved. Just systematical debugging. And then some internet search. I have never used nfs (I use ssh and sftp) so I can't really help you out there. Your version of nfs-kernel-server is affected by the second bug I pos...

Re: Dolphin is slow to show files and folders

Something slows the system down. It's not necessarily dolphin. Is any other program running? Additionally to what Arjen recommended you could open htop or top while it happens and see whether any other process is taking cpu or memory..I would also check the ~/.xsession-errors file to see if anything...
