Re: Out of date Firefox??

You have to edit that file. I have SolydX and would do

Code: Select all

gksudo mousepad /etc/apt/sources.list
If you have SolydK it should be

Code: Select all

kdesudo kate /etc/apt/sources.list
Use your editor of choice. Remove the word "community" in the line kurotsugi said and save.

Re: Update Manager hangs

Thank you for your prompt answer, Zero. I have no idea how that word got into my sources list, I did not write it there. The updates took several hours but things seem to be ok now. Anyway I'm proud that I figured out that error correctly by myself - I'm slowly getting better at Linux - although I s...

Re: FOSS and business models

Just to give a number - my friend would have paid up to 100 EUR for the Linux install on a notebook that suits his needs. He doesn't care whether he pays for the OS itself or just the install. Linux on notebooks is a PITA which would have to be solved for business use too - I don't know any small co...

Re: FOSS and business models

Developing closed source Linux software is no solution, because people use Linux because they want OPEN source. At least I know I do. If I wanted closed source I would stay with Microsoft. Why all the hassle of changing the OS if you get the same stuff just wrapped in diffrent colors? Last month som...

Re: libGL error after Device Driver Manager install of fglr

From http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions : There are several ways to check if fglrx is loaded and running. 1. Check your X.org or XFree86 log. You should see "DRI Initialization Successful." --- OK ~$ egrep -w "DRI" /var/log/Xorg.0.log [ 11.605] Initializing built-in extensio...

Re: libGL error after Device Driver Manager install of fglr

The only way for me to test perfomance and the only data points I have to compare are under wine. But your data is a good step to figure where the problem might lie. Passmark G3D has my video card Radeon HD7750 at 1853 and yours Intel HD P3000 at 409 (higher is better). And now look at glxgears: ~$ ...

Re: libGL error after Device Driver Manager install of fglr

The links I posted dealt with the problem of the missing symlink which lead to fglrx_dri.so not being loaded. It was missing indeed, not only on dual-GPU systems. This part of the problem is solved with adding the symlink. The remaining part of the problem is, that my GPU doesn't perform under OpenG...

Re: libGL error after Device Driver Manager install of fglr

Reboot worked, all error messages are gone. Obviously DDM does only 90% of the install and you have to fix the rest manually. There should be a note about that on the video tutorials. Anyway, fglrx driver still doesn't work as exspected. If this was all catalyst is capable of you could just s...

Re: Any printer experts out here?

I have a Brother MFC 7360N and had no problems with installing on SolydX64 Home using the Brother script linked here http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php ... 4792c2092d. Maybe you can try to deinstall the drivers and start from scratch using the script?

Re: Linux Printer installs

Brother printers are perfect for Linux. They provide a script. My install took 2 minutes and went flawlessly with print, scan and fax. I posted a Howto on this site. On the opposite I couldn't get a HP Printer to work in the past, still no solution for that one. I dumped it, bought Brother instead a...

Re: How much firewall do i need anyway.

This is exactly what I'm considering myself as well. There are 2 types of firewalls which are not to be confused because they do completely different things: 1. Port-based firewalls (a lot of people consider this the only REAL firewall) running on a different maschine, filtering everything by port a...

Re: libGL error after Device Driver Manager install of fglr

Since I'm probably on my own on this I decided to start with creating the missing directories.

Synaptics - software w/o authentification [solved magically]

To solve a problem with VLC and smb-shares I wanted to install smb4k. Suddenly (I've never seen this before and I installed several programs just minutes earlier) I'm getting "Sie haben Software vorgemerkt, die nicht legitimiert werden konnte" (authentification not working). I wouldn't want to do th...

Re: libGL error after Device Driver Manager install of fglr

The missing file fglrx_dri.so is located 3x on my system: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/dri/fglrx_dri.so /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/dri/fglrx_dri.so /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so Which one do I have to link to? Re: libGL error after Device Driver Manager install of fglr

No it's not. In spite of that output I'm sure that hardware acceleration is not working. There is no other explanation for the absolutely shitty graphics performance I'm getting via OpenGL. It's worse than DirectX and that's just not possible on a Linux system. I've cross-checked the numbers. While ...
