Firefox/Thunderbird language problem still unsolved

Originally I thought this problem was solved in this topic: http://forums.solydxk.nl/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=3575 but it is not. I'm using the same firefox and thunderbird profiles on a parallel install of Linux and XP which used to work without problems. Since the april patch I've got problems. I mana...

Re: Update problem -> grub rescue [solved]

Well, I said, I have no idea how ... I'm sure that I did not change anything. And some people on the internet reported that this has happened before. Maybe - during reboot - the BIOS itself thought some "repair" was necessary? I have no idea how "intelligent" this stuff tries to be ... Anyway, in ca...

Re: Update problem Firefox and Thunderbird languages

Vielen Dank, das hat perfekt funktioniert!

I used synaptic to purge those 2 packets and I hope I won't see them again! (Will the update manager remember?)

Re: Update problem -> grub rescue

I checked every mention of grub rescue here. I think the problem has something to do with installs on several HDs. My boot/root filesystem is on sdc2 while grub sits on sdb. On sdc1 I have Win7. Now Win7 doesn't boot on its own anymore because the update probably wrote somthing over its bootsector o...

Update problem -> grub rescue [solved]

I let the update run unattended. At some point I hat to click ok to something but there was never anything grub related. Like other people already mentioned, if there is no immediate input the update manager seems to asume some grub location and continues without user interaction (which seriously su...

Re: UP and BE/BO 2014.04.15 Probleme

Update problem Firefox and Thunderbird languages [solved]

I updated today and I'm getting strange problems: Firefox is in my language (german) but Thunderbird is not anymore. 1. Firefox In Firefox I found an addon named "Quick Locale Switcher" which I I never installed. I'm afraid this "feature" came with Solyds update. There is a flag in the lower right c...

Re: Several sound problems - bug?

I still can't figure out the xfce4-mixer problem but at least the sound problem seams to be fixed. I systematically clicked all places where you can mute sound in pulse audio an tried lots of combinations until I found one that worked. There seems to be no indicator whether sound is muted or not - I...

Re: SSD Install Question.

If the SSD is the only storage medium you have on your comp there is not very much you can do to reduce wear. Depending on how much memory you have you could think about storing log files only temporary by moving some stuff (probably /tmp and /var/log) into RAM. There are howto's for this on the net...

Re: New HDD, how to partition and have permissions after<SOL

Sorry I kept things short in my to-do-list yesterday, I wasn't shure you would come back to your post. Anyway, onto your questions 1. Start gparted, write partition table and partitions the way I want them. right off the bat, I don't know what "the way I want them" means. what might be "the way you ...

Re: Documentation for XP users

Before installing SolydXK on HDD at all, there are several important "To do's" with XP first ... snip You are right in theory, but this is going much to far because it has more to do with windows than with linux. There is another way: Don't waste time by messing with windows. Do yourself a favour a...

Re: New HDD, how to partition and have permissions after

I'm a linux beginner and just installed a new WD 3 TB and I have no idea how to get it to automount with the correct rights without editing fstab. So this is what I did: 1. Start gparted, write partition table and partitions the way I want them. 2. Start Terminal and find out UUIDs with sudo blkid 3...

Re: Several sound problems - bug?

I'm feeling bad about pushing this but could anybody maybe have a look whether the segfault message indicates that a bug about xfce4-mixer is involved? If that is the case I could find out how to install the fix for that from debian-testing. But I wouldn't want to mess with the ressources if that is...

Re: Documentation for XP users

OK no wiki for solyd documentation /sadface I had a look at that Fullcircle issue and that is not exactly what I had in mind. I think many windows convertees will struggle mostly with setting up the system - at least I know I do. If you got through all those problems or if somebody else does that fo...

Re: Documentation for XP users

This would be great. It's exactly what I'm working on at the moment. XP is going to end and I don't want W7. So now I'm trying linux, solydX to be precise. Is this the appropriate thread for proposing content? Or where should that go? I tjhink some of the issues I had (ans those I'm going to have) m...

Re: New HDD, how to partition and have permissions after

As far as I understand it is best to do any permission changes in the /etc/fstab file. It's fairly straightforward. There are a lot of explanations on the web about the structure of fstab, it.s not really hard and much easier than this chmod stuff. Attention: You have to boot the system from the liv...

Re: Several sound problems

Hm, your situation sounds different. I didn't switch and plug anything and I don't want to. Headphones are plugged into the rear and speakers into the front (vice versa would be ok too but for some reason doesn 't work under windows) . I want both to work simultaneously like it does under windows. U...
