Re: UP - 01/04/2014 [TESTING]

ok, it seems that we have a potential problem here; stelios jdhedden do you have any special grub setup that facilitates this failure? also, in a one-liner (or 2) what is the purge/reinstall apt-fu? I had changed the resolution of the grub startup screen. What surprised me was that i did not get an...

Re: UP - 01/04/2014 [TESTING]

I think there is a small problem with the spreadsheet. If i understand correctly, Column C is for succeeded cases, D Warnings and E Failed, but it uses column D to create the sum of succeeded cases, instead of C. Since i had a serious problem with upgrading GRUB, i think i should mention it here bef...

Re: Linux servers hit by Malware

The Windigo campaign doesn't rely on technical vulnerabilities to take hold of servers, Eset said. Instead, it uses stolen credentials.
How did they steal the passwords for 10,000 Unix and Linux servers??

Re: I need your opinion: off-line installation of locales

The whole purpose of using a rolling distribution is to install it once. So the initial size should not matter. if i had to reinstall frequently, only then it should be considered as a problem. But, lets face it. We are not normal users. We are linux software junkies. Which is why we install again a...

Interactive maps as wallpapers, using the KDE globe plugin. We can zoom in/out, move anywhere on the map, watch in real time the transition from day to night. There are various other maps, all of them interactive. Street maps, historical maps, public transpotation, the moon etc. https://dl.dropboxus...

Re: Terminal in KDE - Color Scheme

For me, the easiest way to change the colors is this dircolors -p > ~/.dircolors It will create a hidden file with all color codes for all file types. Al you have to do is edit this file and change the colors. Attribute codes: 00=none 01=bold 04=underscore 05=blink 07=reverse 08=concealed Text color...

Re: New-Fun... How to install a software to standard locatio

You can place the folder anywhere you want inside your home directory. It needs to be there so that it can be updated automatically without root privileges. It will be available for that particular user only though. You can then run it by making the file ts3client_linux_amd64 executable and clicking...

Thanks :) Thunderbird updates come through the SolydXK repositories, so you will see them in updatemanager. The ...

Ubuntu 13.10: Reinstallation wipes out all/other partitions

There is a very serious bug in Ubuntu 13.10. If you try to reinstall it, the installer will offer to reinstall Ubuntu and will then overwrite the entire hard drive. Which means that any other operating systems you may have, will be gone. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/126519...

Re: SolydXK Wikipedia Code (backup, 01-22-2014)

Thanks for your help and common sense, stelios. Maybe being burnt in the past on Wikipedia made me over-cautious. On the other hand I don't know whether you've encountered an actual Wikipedia editor before. They breathe fire, regenerate, teleport, summon elementals, and are immune to non-magical we...

You can see exactly what was installed and removed a particular day using the terminal cat /var/log/dpkg.log | grep 2014-01-25 | grep -w 'install\|remove' if you skip the day from the date, you will see what happened during that month. If you add "upgrade", you will also see the packages that were u...

Re: SolydXK Theme and Icon pack

I like the window decorations very much. They look great ;) Perhaps the folder icon looks flat, because there is a problem with its perspective. The gradient on the front part and the flat back, make the latter look like a background, not part of the folder itself. The back of the folder is exactly ...

Re: SolydXK Wikipedia Code (backup, 01-22-2014)

Guys, this "proposed deletion" means nothing. Any user can propose one. A single objection by anyone kills it permanently. I removed the tag and that is the end of it. It cannot be used again against SolydXK. I also added some sources other than solydxk.nl to address the "notability" thing. To objec...
