Re: Issue with configuration of .xsession-errors

Hi ilu, You did not bork your system, at least not in this regard ;) I compared my findings on K directly with a live session of X on VB: on X I get the same directions of java's stdout and stderr to ~/.xsession-errors as you do. Why that is, however, I cannot tell so far. You might take a look at h...

Re: Testing ISOs 201712

I've fixed KGpg in the solydk-system-adjustments packages and replaced Knotes with Gnote (I think they were most similar and had the least dependencies). Indeed, SolydXK System Settings doesn't have the same functionalities when running live. It would be unnecessary or even unsafe to use them. I al...

Re: Some clues about CPU vulnerabilities? Spectre and meltdown

I was going to say: you are not safe because PTI should be enabled. But, I checked on my old AMD-desktop and it shows that, apparently, the kernel has a routine that checks the CPU-brand and only enables PTI by default when on Intel. As you, @eselma, are on AMD, this will be the intended behaviour, ...

You are right, @grizzler, thanx !
To avoid confusion, I edited my post above, indicating which paragraph is [wrong].
I was actually looking for strikethrough, but not all BBCode parses this;-)

Re: Issue with configuration of .xsession-errors

Hi ilu, I reproduced your scenario on SolydK9. As you can see below, the stdout and stderr output of MediathekView(java) are redirected to something like 'pipe'. When comparing SolydX, the way stdout messages of MediathekView are showing up in ~/.xsession-errors is not happening like that in SolydK....

Re: Some clues about CPU vulnerabilities? Spectre and meltdown

Can somebody clarify which bug is mitigated by PTI and whether this fix is applied to the kernel in general or only on the kernel modules for Intel CPUs? Should AMD and ARM users set the nopti boot parameter to avoid unnecessary slowdown? It is just the nature of these vulnerabilities that PTI only...

Re: Some clues about intel CPU vulnerabilities?

This latest kernel you are referring to is related to the Intel-only Meltdown vulnerability.
For the general processor Spectre vulnerability there is not a fix available at this time.

Re: Testing ISOs 201712

I did a quick review on SolydK today: * starting KGpg results in an error (explainable error message) * starting Knotes then add New note results in an error (has been around, tried to debug it, so far without success) * SolydXK-settings seems to have limited functionality, two tabs (perhaps this is...

Welcome Folkert, Go to: Settings -> System Settings -> Workspace -> Desktop Behavior -> Workspace Behavior, then Show Informational Tips: Check, then Apply. This shows Tooltips for the complete Taskbar-panel; if you do not like the Tooltips for the Taskmanager (like me:-), disable these by rightclic...

Re: Please include Midnight Commander in default install

In terms of housekeeping, you might even consider purging all <>-data packages of which their 'parent' is not installed. Or install the parent as well, if desired. To discover them (the absent parents of installed data-packages) on SolydK9, I ran the following shell-art ;) root@solydxk:/# apt list -...

Re: Errors in installing external program

@bas_otten Could you check which libpng libraries you have installed Here it is: root@bashost:/ #>>> apt search libpng | grep ^i i libpng16-16 - PNG library - runtime (version 1.6) i libpng16-16:i386 - PNG library - runtime (version 1.6) @Schoelje, does this application work correctly on your system?

Re: Errors in installing external program

^ wrong ;)
I installed the program on my fully configured system running inside the same VB setup as the live system in previous post: program runs fine. So it has not to do with VB, it must be related to installed packages of some sort.. which one(s) that's the (tough) question..

Re: Errors in installing external program

As for your question, I installed this software on my main bare-metal system, and guess what: it runs fine and fully functional, although in the terminal I see the same bunch of errors as you do, even a couple more at the end. My system has some more packages installed, but I doubt that is relevant ...

I suppose you mean in Dolphin: in the menu go to Settings, Configure Dolphin, Services, check Delete action. Terminology can be somewhat different, cause I use Dutch translation:-)

Re: New ISOs in ce/testing

Schoelje, I can definitely confirm this problem exists. One of the things I configure on my systems is setting the master volume to 80% at KDE session start using the amixer command. After migrating to SolydK9, it kept happening that out-of-the-blue the volume-level seems to have been changed to 100...

Re: Solydk9 edit Wireless Connection

The recommended way to configure wireless network definitions is through a networkmanager client, for SolydK9 typically the 'kde5-nm-connection-editor', which you can start from the commandline or by left-clicking the wifi-icon in the system-tray and clicking the wrench at the upper right. Does this...

I feel sorry to not have been able to participate more in testing Solyd-9, due to time constraints / priorities :) Anyhow, yesterday I have been working on preparing and customizing my systems for SolydK9. These are in short my findings so far on a fresh-installed bare-metal SolydK9-RC2 (hash checke...
