Re: Power management interrupting movies

I typically use the following command to overcome the issue of the monitor/screen turning off while watching a movie: xset -dpms s off This does turn powermanagement off as far the screen is concerned, but that is what you want/need to do for this to work, isn't it? Or do you want to automatically h...

Re: issues due to browser-cache.sh in profile chain

It isn't present on my SolydX EE installation and I'm quite sure I never removed it. As you've noted, it isn't part of the firefox package and it isn't (pre)installed on the ISOs either. Could it have been created by an add-on? I installed SolydK-EE today, and the browser-cache.sh definitely showed...

Re: Firefox and Libreoffice not taking focus

I do not recognize this problem happening with Firefox, but I definitely do for LibreOffice in KDE.. You start e.g. Writer and 9/10 times you have to move over to the taskbar, click on it, and only then the window appears and takes focus. Very frustrating indeed ;-) But recently I followed up a tip ...

issues due to browser-cache.sh in profile chain

After installing from solyd(k or x)_8_64_201601.iso and when configuring more than one desktop user, I run into the following issue: 1. doing a 'su -' takes a rather long time 2. after doing 'su -' in a terminal from one user's session, logging in to another user's desktop session yields in no sound...

Re: [Spotify package] is not working REOPENED

Slight issue detected: On a clean solyd system, when installing the spotify-client from the import branch of the solydxk repository, it turns out that scripting inside the deb package creates a reference to spotify's own repository, like this: root@bashost:/etc/apt/sources.list.d #>>> cat spotify.li...

Re: [Spotify package] is not working REOPENED

@falke, Import refers to the 'import' branch/subdir of solydxk's general repository, browse to http://repository.solydxk.com/pool/import to get an idea of its content to which Spotify has now been added. If you were using the workaround , it is best to undo it first: remove (or comment) the line con...

Re: [Spotify package] is not working REOPENED

Today, I saw that the new 1.0-something version of Spotify has made it into Spotify's stable repository. That means that everyone who has 'deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free' added to their sources.list and upgrades the spotify-client will no longer need to have the old wheezy libgcry...

Re: Forum updated

Personally, I really like the new SolydXK logo's and the new corresponding Forum theme. The only thing I find frustrating is the large fonts and 'low per screen information density' when browsing the forum on my smartphone (Galaxy S4). Is there an easy way to layout the forum site on the phone ident...

Re: ISO testing 201512

Congratulations Schoelje, very good job, again! I did a pretty thorough test on the RC ISO in a VB today (with the already updated UM), and I did not find anything out of order from my perspective  This is my filled-in test-spec sheet: SolydXK ISO test cases - Bas.ods These are some other thin...

Re: [Solved] Unable to install MS Office 2010

Windows and Unix/Linux systems "talking to each other" But, sharing/querying a user-repository over the network (winbind), is a different story than running on an emulated platform (wine). AFAIK it's only MS Office 2010 but I could be wrong. I am sure that not every Windows application requires win...

Autsj, OK, I'm sorry  Still don't understand the relationship though. This winbind thing keeps nagging me :? For my personal use, I purge it, have it out of the arena.

Nice :) and be welcome!
I also find that in practice Linux is far better supported for private users, considering this and other forums.

Re: USB Imagewriter.....where'd it go?

Someplace on the Debian website, I've read that Unetbootin is not the way to go for Debian. my favourite one is unetbootin. simple and works for most iso file Yes. Unfortunately, unetbootin does no longer seem to be in the Debian stable repos anymore. However, for most of my cases I use the clean a...

Re: [Solved] Unable to install MS Office 2010

@Schoelje, Just a question: why did you suggest to install winbind along with wine32? It is wine32 that solves this problem, winbind has no technical relationship with either wine32 or this problem, AFAIK. Installing winbind without disabling it, introduces the samba problem http://forums.solydxk.co...

Re: Please include wine32 in default install again

my concern is that adding wine into the iso would diminish lot of our potential user. I do agree that we need to improve our OOTB experience but I don't want to lose those potential user too. some distro indeed put wine in their iso but so far they were aiming for segmented (small) market ( new lin...

Re: Please include wine32 in default install again

I agree with Schoelje that it is a good idea to reintroduce wine32 in a default install. After the June release I have been searching for hours why my applications on POL did not work anymore: http://forums.solydxk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=5661 . I think for a distribution like SolydXK which has usab...

Re: [Solved] SMB needs to authenticate twice

I was replying to your phrase: If I remove the wins entry from /etc/nsswitch.conf I can't ping my debian server anymore. I've a ping delay of about 10s. But, as you incidate now, there is no remaining issue, so that's fine. I don't want to give static ip addresses to my client. This is completely no...

Re: [Solved] SMB needs to authenticate twice

Being back from holiday I experimented with the proposed solution. - (Re)install package libnss-winbind because it is used to ping Windows computers: CONFIRM/AGREE - Deactivate (re)installed winbind using update-rc.d to avoid double authentication: CONFIRM/AGREE - @/etc/nsswitch.conf: append ' wins'...

Re: [Solved] SMB needs to authenticate twice

Thanks teigaff. Personally I don't need Netbios name resolution, but it would be a good thing if that works with SoldXK out of the box. Just wondering: Is this issue http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1496488 introduced by the proposed solution? Being on holiday without laptop, cannot play/tes...
