Re: Betsy and SolydXK repos in Jessie

completely agree. just forgot one phrase before the final warning: "After the experiment, Jessie with untouched, standard, default, only native Debian repos was restored from the backup to its original unmodified state." edit : LMDE2 and SolydXK repos were tested separately with Jessie. They weren't...

Re: Jessie not playing nice with other distros (Rant)

by restoring the old swap's UUID you're making it inaccessible for initramfs of the freshly installed debian, aren't you? if we let the bomb to explode (by formatting swap), and cure the consequences later in other linuxes, then it could be wise to regenerate their initram(s) instead. it will allow ...

Re: Jessie not playing nice with other distros (Rant)

In order for the installer not to format a swap partition, it must manually be marked "Do not use" during partitioning. That is the option I could not find. I'll look closer next time. It is not just unchecking (un-selecting?) a box.... after some initial screens debian installer arrives at the poi...

Re: Jessie not playing nice with other distros (Rant)

...I wonder about wyrdoak's link for putting the swap file in a directory instead of a separate partition... Glad if the answer can help you. wyrdoak's link is too synthetic. take a look here, in this forum: Swap files management . it tries to summarize all commands, needed to work with swaps under...

Re: Jessie not playing nice with other distros (Rant)

...Is there any way to de-select the formatting of the swap partition? (I looked, but did not see anything)... i use two ways to avoid damage debian causes by formatting swap partitions. 1. don't use UUIDs in fstab of installed linuxes. use device names instead: /dev/sdaN. 2. installing debian, do ...

Re: Nightly builds

probably, it's the question of personal habits. if someone feels more secure with manual checks in terminal, that's OK. personally, if i can't find a hash sum to enter in DownThemAll! before download, i'd rather prefer to not download at all.

Re: Nightly builds

firefox users may use the extraordinary DownThemAll! extension. among other very useful tools, it can automatically calculate md5, sha1, 256, 384, 512 hash sums and check them against the value, entered by user before (or even during) the dowload. if hash sums don't match, it simply doesn't allow to...

Re: SolydXK trend

...Maybe our #1 direct competitor is/was LMDE... i wouldn't define LMDE as a "competitor". i came in linux with gnome 2, still missing it, can't live without it. kde is very good, but i'm... gnome. LMDE and SolydK happily and pacifically coexist on all my computers. these three are stable, secure, ...

Re: Firefox 36 no update

SolydXK uses by default the Extended Support Release (ESR) edition of Firefox. Its life cycle and release schedule differ from those of Firefox for desktop . For year or two, Thunderbird releases correspond to ESR editions only, though it doesn't use the "ESR" qualifier. Since then, It is not update...

Re: Problems with Nvidia Optimus

@Shoelje, in the small nvidia-optimus world, manjaro remains miles ahead of all other distros, being the first to install proprietary nvidia on optimus out-of-the-box. solydxk is a step behind them, being the second to do the same. want to left manjaro behind and place solydxk one step ahead of them...

Re: Problems with Nvidia Optimus

@Schoelje , briefly the script "as is" doesn't work. it doesn't automa G ically restore the bumblebee's functionality. details the script removes malefic nvidia-xconfig. it's a good step toward nvidia-optimus sanity. but it's not enough. it doesn't remove the root of all evil - /etc/X11/xorg.conf, ...
